I will miss Bob Hope. This is a very sad day for America.

And Martha Ray (sp) too. My C-130 airlift unit in Vietnam used to fly his troup around there. A few months back I was substitute teaching and showing a video on WWII. The next classroom had Peter Jennings "America's Century," on and a segment I could hear very clearly was the end of his show where we all sang "Silent Night." Even the hard-core infantry I was with were all hoping frantically our folks would get to see us on his tv show later when they showed it back i8=n the world. That was a real Vietnam flashback for me.

I was watching the tributes for him on TV. Not a tear in sight, nothing but smiles of remembrance.

A comedian to the last, his wife asked him where he wanted to be buried. He answered "Surprise me."

Senator Dole introduced a bill to bury him in Arlington National Cemetery. He will be among friends.

I was fortunate to have met him briefly (nearly ran me over in his golf cart) while working the press tent at Indian Wells.

Who did Bob Hope influence? I've never seen any of his movies and have only heard of his war shows (most particularly, through Doonesbury).

Thanks for the memories

I got to see him in 1991 when he came to Saudi... When I heard he coming I thought this was going to be a big time war...

If you've never seen one of the Road movies he did with Bing Crosby you've missed some good quality entertainment.

Bob Hope was one of the first widely popular comedians to do "topical" comedy. He was an innovator in his time, moving comedy along from the set-piece jokes of the vaudeville stage to the first stirrings of the current-event and observational humor that everyone does today.

He was also the king of the gentle jibe, an art form that does seem to have gone the way of buggy whips and the Atari 2600. When he poked fun at someone, the target was usually the most amused.

He was a giant. He will be missed.

Bob Hope came to NKP Thailand when he could have been home playing golf and living the good life. A genuine good guy.

I have read that Woody Allen was a big fan of Hopes and If you watch him work you can see it.

Bob Hope tried to enlist after Pearl Harbor, but the Army turned him down. They told him that he'd be more valuable encouraging the war effort back home. And he was.

Someone once said he was the Pentagon's best weapon because of how much he boosted the morale of the men.

A great American, in every way.

Thanks for the memories, Bob.

Bob Hope was laid to rest today, so I guess Arlington National Cemetery might have to wait a while!

He was a great comedian and an even greater soul. We'll probably not hear about all of his philantropic deeds, but I'm sure that he left this old world of ours a much better place than it was a hundred years ago.

100 years. That's what I'm shooting for. :-)

God bless you, Mr. Hope, and thank you.

Thanks for the memories Bob. I remember as a young boy watching Bob Hope movies with my parents. Even when I was small, I got a lot of the humor and enjoyed myself. And I remember his ability to poke fun at someone without being hurtful as well.

A remarkable man, I haven't felt so much loss for someone I didn't really know since Jacques Cousteau passed away.

A comic to the end, his wife reports that near the end, he was asked where he wanted to be buried, and responded "Surprize me"

I met him at the Sears Tower. He was carrying a golf club he would use in a photo shoot for a new Sears clothing line. He was very friendly and the perfect gentleman. Everyone loved him.
