Something you might want to consider when taking the pictures is to take a profile picture especially of the hill terrain. Set the camera up on the edge of the board so one can see the undulations in the boards. The overhead shots don't let you see how the terrain is formed or presented. Otherwise they look great. |

$115 USD for 3 2'x2' boards? You're going to need 2 packs at least for a standard table, so that's $230, which Google tells me is about £140
would anyone pay that? |
| Dave Crowell | 07 Nov 2009 1:29 p.m. PST |
They look good, and the price seems reasonable. I expect they will prove quite popular with clubs and regular playing groups. I would love the option to "pick-a-mix". Say, any three boards for $150, or something like that. I would not mind paying a small premium for a custom mix. |

Unless I'm missing something these do seem a bit pricey. I can get 3 2'x2' tiles from TSS for between £19.50 GBP ($32.37) and £36.00 GBP ($59.76) depending on the tiles you choose, plus £10.00 GBP ($16.60) shipping. But perhaps I've just been spoilt and not realised it? Best of luck with this product anyway! |
| jweaver | 07 Nov 2009 6:18 p.m. PST |
TSS? I should know, but I don't ;-). The scenery store? I'm custom building grass boards with roads / hills now, four two foot by four foot boards. I think I've probably invested about 250$ in materials on them including paint, dense foam, fibre board, hydrocal, flock, scenery cement, enviro tex for water, etc. So maybe 60 dollars per 2x4 or 30 for 2x2. Of course, labor is not counted here. |

Sorry, total system scenics – totalsystemscenic.com I've bought from them a few times, they are nice looking, pretty cheap and last well (unless you spill pink rtv silicone rubber on it
) |
| jweaver | 07 Nov 2009 8:28 p.m. PST |
Thanks. Wow, those are quite cheap. I think I'll like scratch built better, but the TSS ones are pretty cheap. 30$ per 2/2 is not crazy expensive, though, based on the material costs I had with scratch built. Of course, some of the supplies will last and can be used on other projects. |

GW has four boards for 290 dollars. |

wow, those don't even look like rivers. |

GW's are six 2 x 2 boards for $290 USD I wonder if you can get the Old Glory boards using your Army discount? Rabbit |

"high density foam" Does that mean its made of the the same stuff as the common pink foam? |
| wolvermonkey | 07 Nov 2009 10:57 p.m. PST |
Think I'll stick with my Eslo boards. |
| jweaver | 07 Nov 2009 11:17 p.m. PST |
Heya Bravo, no, the stuff I bought is white packing styrofoam, but denser than the type of granular foam that sheds particles. I went to a shipping/packing warehouse to get it. The pink or blue insulation foam is great stuff, but what I like about the packing foam I picked up is that it's two inches thick, and they had 2x2 and 2x4 as standard sizes. I'm using four of the 2x4s for this project, but I've got about 4 2x2s stashed away in the garage. Several layers of pink or blue insulation foam would have worked fine too, though. Not sure about cost comparison. |

I pick up similar boards, ready flocked and painted from a UK company for about $10-15 (at most) a board. Not sure how a price of £115.00 GBP for 3 can be justified. |
| Ken Portner | 08 Nov 2009 5:17 a.m. PST |
The TSS tiles look great and have a nice variety. Unfortunately for those in the U.S.A., the shipping cost is 52 GBP for any order containing the tiles. That kills any cost savings over the OG ones. |
| EagleSixFive | 08 Nov 2009 6:29 a.m. PST |
Guys, like it said.. "cast in durable high density foam" So these are cast in a silicone mould out of urethane foamed resin. Don't matter how dense pink styrofoam or any other expanded foam, it is more durable than it. No wonder they are 30+ each. Having said that, you can't get a 4 x 4 board from one set for a game of DBX even. |
| Pictors Studio | 08 Nov 2009 7:47 a.m. PST |
I saw the pieces at Fall In yesterday, they are quite nice. Given that you get the piece with terrain on it and it is made out of the high density foam that some make terrain out of it is probably worth $115 USD (not pounds) price tag on it. I will probably get a table worth by and by. |
| doc mcb | 08 Nov 2009 9:41 a.m. PST |
As the above posts indicate, there's a competitive market for terrain boards. I assume that OG is pricing them for only a reasonable return on their own costs. |
| Tommiatkins | 08 Nov 2009 1:58 p.m. PST |
I bought 200 quids worth of Hexon 2. I feel i got what i paid for. These pics dont look vaguely like the sort of quality for the price. If they were with a better camera? It still looks like the sort of stuff you pick up for 10 quid a square at bring and buys. Honest reccomendations? Try flocking it and lowering the price 20% |
Old Glory | 08 Nov 2009 7:00 p.m. PST |
The flocking is cast on. In fact, the whole board is cast --not cut from insulation board, etc. The flocking will not scrape off. I have personally had about every type of terrain system and none of them match these in durability and quality. As far as "lowering the price 20%" ---- ????? I would think you would have to have some idea of cost for the tooling and production before one could determine this ??? We certainly do. Russ Dunaway |

I agree with Blackfly. For the price being quoted I would expect the very top end, and frankly I am hoping the photos do not do the terrain justice, because for me both rivers and roads look very poor. |
| Ken Portner | 09 Nov 2009 5:33 a.m. PST |
Russ, How about posting more photos? Maybe some side views to show the elevations/undulations? Top down views just look like flat boards |

I saw them at Historicon and I thought they were well done. |
YogiBearMinis | 09 Nov 2009 10:54 a.m. PST |
Does the OG Army discount apply? From looking at site, it appears that it should, because the Terrain Boards are not a "special" or "sale" item. That would make them very competitive. |
| TriOpticon | 09 Nov 2009 11:28 a.m. PST |
Between the last 2 pictures it says: "The Old Glory Army card discount does not apply to the Terrain Board System." |
Bobgnar | 09 Nov 2009 12:26 p.m. PST |
Note that these are hollow plastic-like material, as mentioned, cast with a texture that is then painted. One color, but easily touched up. An excellent design concept. Rivers and roads could be repainted for those who do not like the color. They are heavy but I do not think they will chip and flake like foam boards. They seem quite thick. I wonder what the depth is. When I saw them in person, I thought they could be thinner. They have, however, the same flaw that all terrain squares have -- they do not fit seamlessly, so the world is filled with cracks. If that could ever be solved, I would buy made-up squares. My current homemade ones have overlapping material (lips) on 2 sides but that limits how much arrangement you can do. I prefer that to the inter-square space. |
| Angel Barracks | 09 Nov 2009 1:12 p.m. PST |
My tiles have a lip on all 4 sides to get around the crack issue too. |

I will try to get some pictures of the hill pieces done at a side angle so the elevation shows better on these pieces and put them on the web site. No photos however will do these beautiful terrain boards justice. As far as the Old Glory Army discount goes we have been thinking that through and we will apply the Army discount BUT the customer must pay the entire shipping cost. We can not give the OG discount and cover part of(on orders under $500) or all the shipping cost if the order is over $500. USD For those who saw our new release flier at Fall In, I apologize as I had made an error on it in regards to the shipping which we didn't catch until just before we were leaving and had already had them printed. The way the shipping is listed on the web site is accurate: "NOTE: Because of the size of these boards they will be shipped via UPS and are considered over-sized boxes therefore we have to charge actual shipping cost. Depending on how far they have to be sent will determine the actual shipping charge. We will adjust the estimated shipping charge of $15.00 USD to actual cost, either up or down before we run your credit card. On orders over $500 USD the shipping will be free except to Alaska and Hawaii where we will pay 1/2 of the shipping charge. On International orders please contact us for actual shipping charges." |
YogiBearMinis | 09 Nov 2009 3:15 p.m. PST |
Applying the OG Army discount is sneaky--if I purchase an OG Army membership to get the boards cheaper, then logic dictates I should take advantage to also purchase some 28mm figures. Being a 15mm gamer, this is a very sneaky way to convert me. :) |

Miniaturesships – I'd love to see a photograph of a group of 3 or 6 placed together, to see what the seams look like. It looks like you guys worked hard to offer a great value on these. It might also be nice to see some figures on them. Best, Steve Cavalcade Wargames cavalcadewargames.com |
