That is a lot of resin. Beautiful work. Unfortunately it is out of my spending range for a single gaming model. |
DoomSayer | 12 Oct 2005 8:31 a.m. PST |
Very nice but it doesn't scream 'Dirz' at all. And the price is insane. |
Steve P | 12 Oct 2005 8:35 a.m. PST |
Yeah this is definately an expensive piece for the extreme collector/painter or a Confrontation player that collects every Rackham model produced. We didn't set the retail pricing, that's from Rackham. However we are offering a pre-order discount of 15% off since it is such an expensive piece. |
camelspider | 12 Oct 2005 8:38 a.m. PST |
It's the Games Workshop-ification of the fantasy gaming world. $260 USD for this thing? Yeah, right. |
kallman | 12 Oct 2005 9:16 a.m. PST |
(sigh!) "It's the Games Workshop-ification of the fantasy gaming world. $260 USD for this thing? Yeah, right." I think GW-fication would work better if you wish to expand the lexicon. And at the risk of starting a flame war and starting up an old old old saw
a) no one is making you buy it b) if the market will bear it will sell c) convert, sculpt or find a proxie for less if you need/must have a Dirz whatever that is. BTW it is a very well done sculpt like most of what we have come to expect from Rackham. Yes it is too much for my wallet as well and I can have a whole new WAB ancient force for about that much cash which for me would be a better investment. But for those who love to play Confrontation and have the bucks I can see why one would want such a cool model in their force. On a final note is it not funny how this is a Rackham product but somehow GW still takes the blame?

Damn Games Workshop for making miniatures so popular that they've forced the rest of the industry to up their standards – and damn them again for making people think that they should perhaps profit from their hard work. Damn them all! |
mksiebler | 12 Oct 2005 9:31 a.m. PST |
Actually, shouldn't this be the "Forge World"-ification of the gaming industry? After all, they're the ones who deal with the high-priced resin kits. Or maybe the "Armorcast"-ification, since they do the same thing for Battletech. $160 USD for an Inner Sphere Atlas Battlemech – how dare they?!? Get your evil empires straight, man! Question for the naysayers – were you even thinking of buying it, and then took a look at the price tag and were shocked? Do you even play Confrontation? Seriously? Really? I agree with Kim. I wonder how much sculpting work went into this beast? How much design work? How hard was it to cast up properly? How many do they expect to sell? How necessary is it to play a happy little game of Confrontation? Price accordingly, and see what happens. I would imagine this thing is kind of like the Bauhaus Grizzly tank resin kit that was produced for Warzone. Beautiful, fun to look at, but totally useless in terms of gameplay since it is so over the top. Later, Markus |

Its probably meant for collectors. The other minis in that line are among the most beautiful in any miniaturs line. There are people who collect them just to paint. I hope they make back their investment on it. |
mksiebler | 12 Oct 2005 9:32 a.m. PST |
Griffon Games – I was going there, but decided not to. You forgot to adopt the "New England fire-n-brimstone preacher" voice, though. I'll have to deduct a point

I didn't make the car payment this month. The money was needed elsewhere" "What did you buy?" "This" *Shows her the Dirz Beast* Fast forward a couple of days: "Ashes to ashes dust to dust

Pretty cool, but more than I want to spend. |
WarWeasel | 12 Oct 2005 10:08 a.m. PST |
meh.. if I wanted to drop that much money kn a kit I would spend and extra $40 USD and buy the resin garage kit for Vermathrax from Dragon Slayer, with a 36" wing span.. $295 USD + S&H ~WarWeasel |

It is an unquestionably beautiful model, but
.. Maybe if I can purchase it a part at a time? |

How much for a leg? :-) Later, Markus |
Farstar | 12 Oct 2005 10:56 a.m. PST |
Only vaguely Dirz-like. Not really interested, particularly at that price

Compatible with the game, huh? Wonder what its stats are.. |

Kind of like fielding a dragon in PP's Iron Kingdoms or Warmachine: Player 1: "Okay, here is my 3000 points of Cygnar ready to do battle with your dragon. My units cover my entire 12" deep deployment zone of this 6 foot wide table. Bring it on!" Player 2: "Okay, hold on
" *reaches under table* Player 2: "Uff! There you go!" Player 1: "!!!!" *thunk* Player 2: "Here's my pet Komodo dragon. I win. Let's go get some beers." :-) Later, Markus |

This thing is actually less than I thought it would be. Given that it is resin and Rackham, I was thinking it would be around $400 USD or so. It's still more than I'd pay – and it looks better unpainted than in that second shot

WarHound | 12 Oct 2005 12:27 p.m. PST |
I am sorry but I look at this figure and I dont see a great sculpt. And I would by something expensive as a treat to myself for a game I play if I was impressed but honestly I dont see Rackhams usual maazing ad unique style and I dont see anything that stands out in the sculpt. I suggest going to the toy shop and picking up a 3.95 giant Dinosuar toy and then grabbing some plasticard and making armour plates
Whalla 10 dollars and you got the same thing. Comments about Forgeworld I would say at least they have a huge WOW factor to a lot of there work even if some of the wow is the price. Sorry but I think thats a disapointing model at an even more disapointing price. |
Vanilla Gorilla | 12 Oct 2005 1:13 p.m. PST |
LOL
"Rackham made a big expensive resin piece. DAMN YOU GW!!!!" Gotta love TMP. |
mxconnell | 12 Oct 2005 1:37 p.m. PST |
I'm not that surprised by the cost, actually. I was surprised that it is only 9" long. The pictures seem bigger some how (yeah, I know, the camera adds 10 pounds). Look at the garage kit hobby – a 1/3 scale bust will cost about $175 USD to $200. USD And you will rarely see offers like Fantization's discount for pre-orders. I am glad, though, that I don't play Dirz. Here's hoping they don't make a Kelt beastie to tempt me. I find the "compatible with Confrontation" line amusing. Ragnarok, sure, but Confrontation? It's a skirmish game for crying out loud! Unless of course this is Rackham's way of becoming an Evil Empire – cough up $250, and you get the mega-death machine which only cost 125 army points! But it can't be the aspiration of every game company to become an Evil Empire, can it? B-) |
Warlock Commander | 12 Oct 2005 1:53 p.m. PST |
I think it's a cool piece, but is it actually Rackham, or made by someone else under Rackham license? Because I can't find it on the rackham website! Cheers. |
Steve P | 12 Oct 2005 2:39 p.m. PST |
Yes it's officially from Rackham with an official model # SCTI01. It's 2 1/2 to 3 months from the release date so you probably won't see anything on their site quite yet. I heard a rumor that the Dirz Beast stats are floating around the French Confrontation Boards because they are play testing it for the December release. I'm not confirming the rumor just passing it on so happy hunting. |
Shinobi | 12 Oct 2005 5:46 p.m. PST |
Can't say that I like the model, doesn't look very Dirz-y either. A lot of money for a gaming piece that you can lose in combat to a double-6
. |
smokingwreckage | 13 Oct 2005 7:08 a.m. PST |
I thought it looked cool, really. NO comment on price :P |
jtisdel | 13 Oct 2005 7:08 a.m. PST |
Too much for Confrontation, but it will give the Dwarven Steam Chariot something to worry about in Rag'Narok
. Griffin Cannon will still blast it! jmt |
Space Monkey | 14 Oct 2005 12:47 p.m. PST |
Looks a too comical for a Dirzian unit
sort of GW orkish more like. No money, no need, no worry
