How can ONE die possibly generate all 36 possibilities that you could get from 2D6?

Or even assuming that what they really mean is the SUM of 2D6, that is values in the range 2-12, how could ONE die possibly give you the same frequency distribution as you would get from rolling TWO dice?

They will certainly mystify and befuddle the muggles. grin

I've just been informed that mine was NOT the first post to this news article.

Thanks a lot, MajorB- my day is ruined!

Imagine pulling these out in the middle of a game & rolling them. Everyone would be going "what is that"?

I'm sure somebody will need them and find uses for them.

This is amazingly clever. In the thousands of years we've had dice nobody has come up with this idea of one die with multiple functions. Even if it were just D6 and average D6, it would be worth it. The two D6 is strange but this is what they say on their website
"2D6: one die to determine 2D6, choosing one of two numbers appearing closest to you. While the probabilities are not the same, this comes in handy when you only have one die."

Of course, one could always roll a single die twice.

I will have to get a handful of these if if just to reward the creativity.

Inthe thousands of years we've had dice nobody has come up with this idea of one die with multiple functions.

GameScience's d14's have the days of the week on them, and several varieties of die specifically double as direction die.

Is this a solution looking for a problem?

I agree with Phrodon.

I think it's cool. If they weren't prohibitively expensive, I'd totally get them, even if the 2d6 is mostly useless. They just look cool :)

fascinating.

A D2- isn't that a coin ?

In our club anyone rolling those dice you get as freebies at game shows with designs instead of a 6 (or a 1) gets tuts of disapproval and 'can't you use proper dice so everyone can see what you got ?' so just imagine the result when these come out.

Actually its almost worth it just to see …

Clever, but too confusing….

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only take one die…

I've been gaming for for 45 years and have never heard of a "DF". What is it?

boy wundyr x15 Oct 2015 2:11 p.m. PST

@FABET01 – looks like they mean a Fudge/Fate die, the link has more description and decodes the face of each.

Don't get the 2d6 either, though from the group shot I see more than one 7 on the pairings on each face.

I guess at the least it would stop someone from using an average die as a d6!

Thank bwx.

It is cool, it looks vaguely metaphysical…

Oddball15 Oct 2015 7:37 p.m. PST

You could roll these dice and say they came up whatever you wanted.

Got a headache just looking at them.

Obviously geared towards gamers with younger eyes than me

Big Problem: It appears to be a die that lets you do more with less. You only need this one die instead of several. You can own, carry, and roll fewer dice. Except that everyone wants to own, carry, and roll lots of dice. It's the opposite of better.

On the other hand, it's a die that I don't have so I want to buy it. Which is one of the purest instances of irony I've experienced. I want to add a collection-reducer to my collection only for the sake of adding to my collection.

"It is cool, it looks vaguely metaphysical…"

I agree…it looks like if I roll too many I might open a wormhole or call Cthulhu.

I am not hating on it the die though. I love the concept and would like to see more innovations in things we take for granted.

I would also like things that help my in my gaming…say a tape measure that starts beeping when I am about to make a stupid move. I would pay a lot of $ for that.

ACW Gamer18 Oct 2015 7:09 a.m. PST

If I were to make an improvement…I would change the color of some of the numbers.
