I remember as a child in the 1950's seeing a Mexican Air Force flight of three Ford Tri-Motors flying over a field where we had lit a bonfire so that the smoke would guide some lost hikers home. Instead of a roundel, they had a red, white and green triangle (red at the edge and green in the center).
