Weird War II comes to 15mm in a BIG way!! Ok, who's up for statting this beast in Flames of War? And I WILL have these for sale on the Little Soldiers table at Bugle Call, by my life, I will!! |
Whatisitgood4atwork | 27 Mar 2012 4:29 a.m. PST |
Oh my goodness. I wonder if anyone ever worked out the ground pressure of that beast, how it would get across a river, or how to get it to the front line at all.Fun to game though. Would be an interesting addition to a Kursk game. |

30 gallons per mile I bet. |
Poi000 | 27 Mar 2012 4:57 a.m. PST |
Could use it as an OGRE in 15mm |
Cherno | 27 Mar 2012 5:04 a.m. PST |
No idea about the ground pressure of the Ratte, but the Maus had a very low ground pressure because the tracks were extremely wide. Now what about the P1500 "Monster?" |
Yesthatphil | 27 Mar 2012 5:05 a.m. PST |
Is there a head palm icon on the formatting page? |
VonTed | 27 Mar 2012 5:20 a.m. PST |
<giddy giggles and hand clapping> How much?! :) |
elsyrsyn | 27 Mar 2012 5:46 a.m. PST |
Could use it as an OGRE in 15mm My thoughts exactly. Doug |
John the OFM | 27 Mar 2012 6:18 a.m. PST |
I am not so much worried about bridges supporting its weight, as whether it would actually FIT on a bridge. |
Editor in Chief Bill | 27 Mar 2012 6:23 a.m. PST |
Would it fit in a river? |
Bashytubits | 27 Mar 2012 6:31 a.m. PST |
It's of a size, who needs a bridge? |
VonTed | 27 Mar 2012 6:44 a.m. PST |
Why does it need to even move? You just know the battle would come to it! |
Legion 4 | 27 Mar 2012 6:47 a.m. PST |
Would like to see it in 6mm
|
Griefbringer | 27 Mar 2012 7:03 a.m. PST |
How large a crew would be needed run that thing? |
Wolfprophet | 27 Mar 2012 7:11 a.m. PST |
Surprisingly few. 30-40 men? I so want one. Never imagined someone would make one in 15mm
too bad it was just in time for me to give up World War II, but at least it's just in time for me to still be into sci-fi in the same scale. |
John the OFM | 27 Mar 2012 7:11 a.m. PST |
How large a crew would be needed run that thing?
Easily found. A lot of swabbies from the Scharnhorst are doing nothing but chipping rust. Where is the Admiral's flag cabin? |
Porkmann | 27 Mar 2012 7:43 a.m. PST |

John the OFM | 27 Mar 2012 7:49 a.m. PST |
It wold be nice to see a Tiger in the same scale alongside it, for perspective. |
12345678 | 27 Mar 2012 7:52 a.m. PST |
John, do you see the little gun in the middle of the front of the turret? That is the same gun as a Jagdtiger; that gives some idea of scale:). |
VonTed | 27 Mar 2012 7:58 a.m. PST |
|
elsyrsyn | 27 Mar 2012 8:01 a.m. PST |
Can't you just see it rolling over the top of a FoW parking lot full of T-34s? Of course, one 500# bomb on the engine deck and it's nothing more than an LOS obstruction, but it would be fun while it lasted. Doug |
kallman | 27 Mar 2012 8:08 a.m. PST |
Man! This looks like something GW would design for 40K. What a monster and I wonder if this was an inspiration for the Bolo series of books? |
John the OFM | 27 Mar 2012 8:09 a.m. PST |
Oh, my goodness
This is worse than a mineshaft gap! And to think that production of the Sherman was delayed because of turret ring casting problems. I can see all kinds of incustrial bottlenecks for this baby. I thought it was just a bulked-up Tiger! |
Cherno | 27 Mar 2012 8:29 a.m. PST |
Industrial Bottlenecks.. Nonzenz! Once vee have this baby, vee vill roll all ze way straight into the Kremlin! |
VonTed | 27 Mar 2012 8:33 a.m. PST |
Can't have much of a bottleneck if you build only one! :) Besides, the guns were already available
. the trick would be building/assembling it within a couple miles of the front line. You wouldn't want to ship that thing very far to use it. |
Wolfprophet | 27 Mar 2012 8:48 a.m. PST |
Man! This looks like something GW would design for 40K. What a monster and I wonder if this was an inspiration for the Bolo series of books? Clearly, GW has former German mechanical designers working for them then. the Leman Russ must have been the answer to the Sherman that never saw light. ;) |

I'd like to recommend a book: My Tank Is Fight! ; Deranged Inventions of World War II, by Zack Parsons. Citadel Press, ISBN 0-8065-2758-7 What it says it is. It includes the Ratte, the Monster, the Silbervogel skip-bomber, and the U.S.S. Habakuk! The majority of these loony-mechs are German, because that's how they thought. A very snarky book. Really, you'd wish that the Nazis had built at least one; tying up all that material and naval (really) construction capacity might have shortened the war some. And it would have been cool to see the remains in a museum today! Von Ted – Great graphic! |
Lion in the Stars | 27 Mar 2012 9:21 a.m. PST |
I want one! Please update ASAP with a price (and shipping) estimate. |

Where do I sign up for a pre-order! |
wolvermonkey | 27 Mar 2012 9:29 a.m. PST |
My space orcs need these. |
Griefbringer | 27 Mar 2012 9:31 a.m. PST |
Besides, the guns were already available
. the trick would be building/assembling it within a couple miles of the front line. You wouldn't want to ship that thing very far to use it. Or just build it up in a safe spot, and wait until the front line moves all the way there

The G Dog | 27 Mar 2012 9:38 a.m. PST |
G Dog like! I could see using it for a sci-fi game. Okay, I could see building a sci-fi game around this beast. |
jameshammyhamilton | 27 Mar 2012 9:41 a.m. PST |
I am not sure a 500 pound bomb would make much of a dent in it but get a few naval spec armour piercing bombs or better yet get 617 squadron to use it for tallboy practice and it would not last very long at all ;) |
elsyrsyn | 27 Mar 2012 9:48 a.m. PST |
Would like to see it in 6mm
Different interpretation, with the 12.8cm as a hull gun. link Different model with ancillary rear turrets. link Doug |
SBminisguy | 27 Mar 2012 10:34 a.m. PST |
Or here :) link I actually funded the first one, then the artist and I had a disagreement. So I did the second one as well. I'm in discussion with some folks to see how we take this to traditional metal and resin. Here's that 3D print next to some 1/285th scale microarmor.

TheBeast | 27 Mar 2012 11:13 a.m. PST |
Just wrong! Land leviathans are the provenance of VSF exclusively!!! ;->= I don't care HOW wide the tracks are: needs pilings driven to bedrock. Doug |
Griefbringer | 27 Mar 2012 11:22 a.m. PST |
I could see using it for a sci-fi game. Okay, I could see building a sci-fi game around this beast. How about having space nazis building one of those on the dark side of the moon, and then flying it to Earth in a spaceship in year 2015 or so? |
SBminisguy | 27 Mar 2012 11:32 a.m. PST |
Well, the thing about this beastie is that the Germans evidently mocked up the whole vehicle in plywood, had engineered it to the point where they had secured the submarine diesel engines to power it, the turret from a light cruiser, etc. Then the project was abandoned after the production/resource limitations became apparent and the turret moved to a shore battery/coastal defense emplacement, the plywood mock-up destroyed and so on. |
optional field | 27 Mar 2012 11:37 a.m. PST |
If this is affordable I'll want one in 6mm as an OGRE, and if it's very affordable I'll buy several for kit bashes. |
SBminisguy | 27 Mar 2012 11:40 a.m. PST |
Love the 15mm model, btw, nice job Forged in Battle!!! |
Oberst Radl | 27 Mar 2012 11:58 a.m. PST |
I don't game in 15mm. I don't game WWII. But I'll take three, please. |

No wonder the Germans lost the war. Thank goodness they spent so much time, planning, resources and money on wierd stuff when they should have been building Panthers. |
Volleyfire | 27 Mar 2012 1:35 p.m. PST |
Well, the thing about this beastie is that the Germans evidently mocked up the whole vehicle in plywood, had engineered it to the point where they had secured the submarine diesel engines to power it, How many engines would it have required, anyone know? Are you sure it wasn't steam powered instead? ;-)) |
SBminisguy | 27 Mar 2012 1:42 p.m. PST |
LOL! Your Wiki- entry: link 8x Daimler-Benz MB501 20-cylinder marine diesel engines (E-boat engines) OR 2x MAN V12Z32/44 24-cylinder marine diesel engines 16,000 to 17,000 hp (U-boat engines) |

Dark Knights And Bloody Dawns | 27 Mar 2012 2:29 p.m. PST |
Wait to you see the size of the dug in markers for it. How long would it take for the entire crew to bail out, pass a motivation check and then get straight back in? How many rolls do you get on the Tigers Aces list? Can I replace my Typhoons with Lancasters? |
CmdrKiley | 27 Mar 2012 3:00 p.m. PST |
"How long would it take for the entire crew to bail out, pass a motivation check and then get straight back in?" It a vehicle received a hit big enough to force that to happen, you might as well call it game over. |
