Shouldn't one of the heads on Cerebus be licking his junk? Sorry, Venture Bros. ruined me for mythology
.. Binky says "OINK" ps. Who sculpted what on these? Foundry don't say no more. |

Wait? There was more then one Cyclops? The Odyssey had one, but were there more? There are plenty of them all through Greek and later Roman myth. The one who was blinded in the Odyssey was named Polyphemus, and he lived on an island with "many kin" – who were the ones chucking rocks at the ship "Noman" was escaping in at the end of the story arc as revenge for their blinded brother. Homer (and Foundry, now) portrayed them as big dumb maneating sheep farmers, but the earlier myths credit other cyclopes with making various weapons of the gods (including Zeus' thunderbolts) and aiding Hephaestus in his forge. Personally, I prefer the Ray Harryhausen version from Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, but it isn't really very true to the myths. |

I have these rules already, and have written a full review for my column in 'Miniature Wargames'. Well written and presented with lots of gaming options. |

I thought Aphrodite was supposed to be a goddess of love and beauty? If she really looks like that I better not say anything else lest I be cursed. |

Its nice to see Foundry doing such a big range its just a shame that their best days seem to be behind them as the style is very dated. These would probably look a lot better with a subtle paint job rather than the dark lining in my opinion |
| TheMasterworkGuild | 26 Jan 2012 5:44 a.m. PST |
I think the idea is good but execution poor. I'd have loved to seen these sculpted by Reaper. Maybe they are really well sculpted – but the paint job really doesnt do them any favours. |

I think it might be more of her paint job than the figure. It's easy to get carried away when attempting the "Dalimore" method. Either way its nice to see the Foundry putting out figures that at least make sense. After Zulu's with AK47's anything is an improvement. God forbid they make figures worth the asking price. |

I like them just fine. Sure its foundry and that they are expensive but they are nice. |

I've seen other painters who should know better make the same mistake. Over-shading by the boyz in the GW Studio made the LotR Arwen, an ageless Elven beauty of only three centuries, look every day of that in Human terms. Classic female beauty is *smooth*. |
| HornetsNestMinis | 26 Jan 2012 10:30 a.m. PST |
Agreed in the end I found the three step shading method looks best with a less contrast between the colors and a bit of shading with washes. Kind of a old meets new technique. |

I will Just have to order a couple of packs, paint them up and post them on the web. There are a lot of alternative fantasy greeks out there Crocodile do some great Spartans even if they are straight out of 300 |

gOT THE BOOK TODAY! Tea time! |
| Farstar | 26 Jan 2012 2:35 p.m. PST |
Croc's Spartans pre-date the movie version of 300, but they were aware of the similarities as soon as the first trailers hit. |
| SultanSevy | 27 Jan 2012 6:23 a.m. PST |
I like the majority of these, but gotta agree; Aphrodite looks like she won the Greco-Roman Ugly Chick Beauty Contest. |
| Jim Bowen | 27 Jan 2012 8:19 a.m. PST |
That's true they predate the film of 300 but not the comic either way crocs Spartans are excellent I think these have a lot of potential the Centaurs look great as do Medusa except her sister gorgons where all different. |
| Derek H | 27 Jan 2012 9:11 a.m. PST |
the Centaurs look great Are you joking? link link |

It is a nice line, and fairly well thought out. I'm not saying they didn't leave out something, but it looks like they got the highlights. We'll have to wait for the homecoming pack, with Penelope, Telemachus, Eumaeus and the suitors. I see package quantity has dropped to five figures from six in the Viking packs(yeah, I'm somebody who remembers the eight figure packs--actually I remember the days when they sold individual figures). Agree that the painter didn't do Aphrodite any favors, and will probably be cursed with a pathetic love life (even worse than mine) as a result. I see they have packaged the figures in a fashion that is organized from a purchaser point of view: we have packages of just gods, or cyclops, or satyrs, not a pack with three cyclops, a dryad and Poseidon, while cyclops number four and five are in with Odysseus (or worse, Achilles), or something like that. Makes it easier to get what you want, without buying the entire line. Twenty years ago, when I was doing Greeks, I'd have snapped them up, but I've pretty much moved on. Not guaranteeing that I will never come back and buy them, but it isn't an incredibly high priority for me. Maybe Vikings will get the same treatment, and we'll have somebody other than Thor in their Norse mythological line. Grelber |

Those Centaur are very poor. 10 man packs? I remember when they sold them in 10s (albeit minus shields) |

All the miniatures seem to be blockier than their previous standard – some with gigantic hands. And the painting just accentuates that. |
