Couldn't resist. The base game uses battalions as the maneuver units. There are optional rules for larger battles using brigades as the maneuver units.

How do reactions work in the game? The blurb mentions being able to react in your opponent's turn?

Basically, for every "failure" you roll for your leader your opponent gets a chance to "react" with one of his units before your turn continues.
