nycjadie30 Mar 2007 9:24 a.m. PST

Oh, only 10-25% up?

aka Mikefoster30 Mar 2007 9:31 a.m. PST

Like anybody is surprised by this.

jeffrsonk30 Mar 2007 9:31 a.m. PST

Wow. I honestly can't believe that their cost of doing business is rising 20-25% a year. When do they realize that these kinds of annual price increases are doing nothing for their bottom line?

Farstar30 Mar 2007 9:32 a.m. PST

So much for last year's "the letter code is now a fixed price, not a range".

Pole Bitwy PL30 Mar 2007 9:36 a.m. PST

It would be interesting to chart price rises against GW stock over a longer period of time…

Wow… my first comment on TMP gets to be about a GW price increase! Special day…

1. Sold off all my GW stuff at the Cold Wars Flea Market this year and noticed that many other people had the same idea.

2. People *bought* all my old GW stuff -- and got some great deals. So, I guess that demand is still there.

3. 20% price increases across the board = a really good impetus for folks who would otherwise be loyal GW gamers to look at other systems.

So… in the end, I guess it's a good thing. But, that's just because my two sons are going to sell off *their* GW stuff at Fall-In… They discovered WW2 gaming after the last round of GW price increases. Economics played a big role there, since their allowances did not increase to "match inflation" and put GW out of reach. ;-)

Yeah, this will help prop up those sagging sales.

Insomniac30 Mar 2007 9:49 a.m. PST

Ha ha ha!!!

I recommend Hasslefree miniatures, Ground Zero Games, Heresy Miniatures, Old Crow (for vehicles) and No Limits (for Rules)…

Ha ha ha…25%!!!

Sooner or later this affect all miniatures . Tin was $10,000 a ton at Christmas , last week it was $14,500 .

There is a worldwide Tin '' crisis '' caused by supply problems in Bolivia ( unstable political situation ) and in Indonesia where 2 of the worlds biggest Tin mines have closed due to health and safety issues .

Craig Grady30 Mar 2007 9:53 a.m. PST

This is great news, now when i sell my GW stuff on ebay it (theoretically) will sell for more since it will cost more to start with! :)

That is of course if GW have not priced everyone entirely out the starting market to keep the frothers coming to ebay.

adster30 Mar 2007 9:56 a.m. PST

Cobblers.

Saxondog30 Mar 2007 9:58 a.m. PST

The price of tin isn't that important. There is only a few cents of metal in each figure. That 45% increase in metal costs would probably translate into less then 25 cents per blister. Probably a lot less.

Penchour30 Mar 2007 10:02 a.m. PST

Argh !! Gas is expensive, metal is expensive, water is expensive, pigments are expensive, paper is expensive, hardwares and softwares are expensive too … Gaming is becoming a high social class affair ! Gotta find a better job … at least a better wage !

Cke1st30 Mar 2007 10:05 a.m. PST

How much tin is in a spray can of primer, a pin vise, or a terrain kit?

Read the first letter of each of the following price-increased items to reveal the secret message from GW:

Grey Knight Brother Captain Stern
Rohan Captain
Eldar Heavy Weapon Platform
Eldar Ulthran Farseer of Ulthan
Dwarf Lords Dain and Balin

Elchimpster30 Mar 2007 10:10 a.m. PST

I was thinking "Tin? That only applies to metal figs, and GW is doing largely plastics now." when I realized…plastic…dependant on the oil market.

I saw Gripping Beast and Foundry upping prices and I guess I should have expected this too.

Did you notice?

An international corporation made an announcement about price hikes, but they are too .Bleeped texting cheap to pay for a supporting member icon.

Crikey!!! Thank goodness I've just found DBA and 15mm. Will still paint up the Warhammer 40K stuff I have, and will probably pick up the odd piece from Ebay, but that is it for me. ANyone used the Flames Of War paints out of interest as another GW paint increase must be on the cards soon and I won't be buying their paints when they do. Utter con company… hurry up and go bust ;-)

Double Ace30 Mar 2007 10:22 a.m. PST

I think they saw the $85.00 USD listing for ONE of their "unreleased" figs, and decided they were charging too little.

Sorry, that was my first and only reaction.

MiniatureReview30 Mar 2007 10:29 a.m. PST

You know if some of the miniature manufactures wanted to poke fun at the GW price rise they could have a 10% off sale in April. Heck you could probably turn it into a really good PR campaign.

Tangofan30 Mar 2007 10:31 a.m. PST

Shock Horror!!!!!! GW are increasing their prices!!!!!

mad monkey 130 Mar 2007 10:37 a.m. PST

shadow king30 Mar 2007 10:53 a.m. PST

They are losing the plot, big time now, prepainted and other manufactures are the winners here and they will benefit from all this rubbish. Dinosaurs died out and now this one is going the same…

Superb minatures good quality product, bad rules true but there is a limit……………….

"Blimey lads! Too many undesirable people are purchasing our fine product. We are not the "People's Wargame", we are for the gaming elite! We must increase prices to maintain our exclusive image!"

Salibaba30 Mar 2007 10:59 a.m. PST

are prices only rising in the UK?

Personal logo Murphy Sponsoring Member of TMP30 Mar 2007 11:00 a.m. PST

I'll just stand by quietly and watch this, since I don't play any GW stuff…

Stryker0130 Mar 2007 11:15 a.m. PST

The first question is are the figures made out of pure tin? My guess is not. So even though the price of tin went from 10K to 14K a ton I cant imagine it would require a 20% or more increase to manufacture.

mrshasslefree30 Mar 2007 11:15 a.m. PST

Kev here on Sally's PC.

How's this for a scenario?

1. GW puts prices up 20%.

2. GW Retailers put prices up to match to allow for re-stock costs.

3. GW puts prices up another 20%.

4. GW retailers puts prices up to match, again.

5. GW ups the prices AGAin by 20%.

6. Retailers, you guessed it, put their prices on GW stock up by 20%.

7. GW cuts online prices by 40%, thereby effecitvely negating the retailer discount and leaving all the reailers with GW stock holding expensive miniatures that they'd have trouble shifting unless they sell at cost. Customers flock back to GW leaving the indies stranded, causing a worldwide crash of independant retailers and a boost in in-house sales.

Then again I'm known to have paranoid delusions and talk Bleeped text after a bottle of wine. Move along people….. nothing to see here.

SeattleGamer Supporting Member of TMP30 Mar 2007 11:19 a.m. PST

Wow! I guess I should have seen this coming, but even I am surprised at the amount of the hike. A buck a blister (and here I'm talking US Dollars) is one thing, but 10-25% UK Sterling is a HUGE spike.

Stryker0130 Mar 2007 11:20 a.m. PST

This is the best one.
PIN VICE SET From £8.00 GBP to £10.00 GBP and increase of £2.00.

I bought an almost identicale set at the dollar store three years ago and still use it. In fact I bought four of them and still have two of them unopened. Anyone want to by a Pin VICE SET for 10$.

Thing is, most kids don't have credit cards.

Cke1st30 Mar 2007 11:21 a.m. PST

White Elks, now you've done it! You inspired me! Now the whole world must suffer as I finish what you started!

All the world seems in tune / just two months before June,
When we're raising our prices in the dark.
Every six months you'll see / my CEO and me,
As we're raising the prices in the dark.

When they see us coming, the gamers all try an' hide,
But they still need their fix, so we'll just take them for a ride.
The future seems bright / and our profits excite,
When we're raising our prices in the dark.

We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the HMG Society
With our games.
It's "Greed," they say quietly,
They call it impiety
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To jack up your prices a smidgen.

So if some day you're free, / why don't you come with me,
And we'll raise all our prices in the dark.
And maybe we'll do / in an old game or two,
While we're raising our prices in the dark.
We'll inflate them all amid laughter and merriment,
Except for the few that will face discontinue-ment.

My pulse, it will quicken / with the pockets we're pickin'.
We must have more revenue;
It feels just like heaven – ooh! -
To raise all our prices in the dark!

nycjadie30 Mar 2007 11:21 a.m. PST

…a requirement for online ordering.

Crusaderminis30 Mar 2007 11:28 a.m. PST

I just find it funny that they had to tell us what the price difference is between £10.00 GBP and £12.00 GBP

No Name0230 Mar 2007 11:42 a.m. PST

I love GW, really I do, just when you think they can't get any stranger, they up the limit.

Good on ya folks, GW king of the price rise.

Acharnement30 Mar 2007 11:48 a.m. PST

Come on, folks. No way that announcement is from GW. It was just posted one day early. It should have included some gags to give it away though.

Vicshere30 Mar 2007 11:55 a.m. PST

No, pretty sure it is from GW. As they say, Spring is in the air…….

Malcolm M30 Mar 2007 12:16 p.m. PST

I'm so glad I dumped GW years ago, although I do owe them a debt of thanks as it was 40K that got me into mini gaming and collecting. Without that I wouldn't have made so many gaming friends, many on here.

Go0gle30 Mar 2007 12:17 p.m. PST

Well…they've priced themselves outta my wallet range.

blackscribe30 Mar 2007 12:39 p.m. PST

There was a time when we used to order our stuff from GWUK because it was cheaper than ordering it from GWUS. Then they instituted that policy where any GW would charge the prices of the GW of the country of origin of the customer (on phone orders). Now it looks like we're getting a 'deal' in the US!

Paulbytheriver30 Mar 2007 12:50 p.m. PST

I was at a GW trade seminar a couple of years ago where they stated it was their policy to increase prices year on year regardless of whether their costs had changed (purely I imagine as they believed that the market was largely unresponsive to price). So expect another rise next year and so on until they collapse and get absorbed in hasbro or similar and end their days selling asian prepaints in toy stores.

Supreme Dalek30 Mar 2007 12:54 p.m. PST

Crazy mis-managed company…

Regrebnelle30 Mar 2007 1:00 p.m. PST

No suprises. After all they are a publicly held company that has to try to move their share price up. Every time they have been under pressure to perform on the market they increase prices to increase sales. The current management is pretty predictable. IMHO they're hurting the long term viability of the business for a short term pop in profit, but then so are a whole lot of other business in other industries.
