The Gauls and Roman Mounted Generals/Roman Cavalry Command look awesome, not to sure about the Roman cavalry though?

kallman01 Oct 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

They both look good to me. The Blue Moon 15/18 continue to amaze me with their quality.

GurKhan01 Oct 2014 11:59 a.m. PST

I can't quite make out what type of helmets the Roman cavalry are supposed to be wearing.

Broglie01 Oct 2014 12:39 p.m. PST

Great looking figures. Is there a Blue Moon agent in Europe yet?

Panzerfaust Miniatures01 Oct 2014 1:06 p.m. PST

Old Glory UK down?

turenne01 Oct 2014 1:28 p.m. PST

I didn't think Old Glory UK did 15/18mm.

genew4901 Oct 2014 2:16 p.m. PST

They do carry Blue Moon 15/18mm. They are having a problem with the website; try here instead for now.

The Roman cav. have standard roman helmets for the period.
Actual"roman cav for this time period is hard to find info on as they mostly used Gauls, numidians, etc as cav. Some writers suggest that "Roman cav" may have just been messengers?
Sculpting work on the Dacians, sarmations, Romans has started.

Agreed!

TiberiusAugustus01 Oct 2014 5:47 p.m. PST

What kind of Romans?

Fotherington Thrip01 Oct 2014 6:25 p.m. PST

Marians I am thinking.

AUXILIAPAL01 Oct 2014 8:35 p.m. PST

They are superb!
Yes they are Marians and could be mounted legionaries of Caesar's Xth legio…
A pity to have the UK site down and the troopers are already out of stock on the Blue Moon site!
Can't wait for the Dacians!!!

@Russ "Old Glory":

"The Roman cav. have standard roman helmets for the period."

Romans mostly wore bronze Montefortino types, adopting bronze Coolus-derived types during C1 BC, with possibly some wearing iron helmets of Gallic Agen-Port derivation during Caesar's wars. There's something about these models that doesn't look quite right for any of them. It shows up worst in the photos of the cavalry command, where the helmets seem to have a peak at the forehead rather than just the rim that you get on a Montefortino. The neckguard is almost vertical, which might fit some of the iron Gallic types but not the horizontal guard of the bronze ones, but the skull is too high for the Agen-Port types… It all looks curiously 19th-century, somehow.

"Actual"roman cav for this time period is hard to find info on as they mostly used Gauls, numidians, etc as cav. Some writers suggest that "Roman cav" may have just been messengers?"

It's true that cavalry doesn't seem to have been a standard part of the legions at this period, but there are several references to sizeable citizen cavalry forces, especially during the civil wars – most famously Pompey's "flower of Rome and Italy" at Pharsalus.

Weat Old Glory UK are having serious server and website problems but you can still contact us by email on info@oldgloryuk.com
and we are still open for business
We carry all the Blue Moon ranges for the UK and Europe and will have these with my next -resupply order- they just missed the one I recieved on Monday as they weren't available when the order was shipped! But rest assured I'll get them in .

OldGlory Andy02 Oct 2014 3:09 a.m. PST

Turenne and Broglie
We've been the UK and European agents for Blue Moon since the beginning of Blue Moon . so say around 5 years or more.
They've been on the website all that time as ranges come out I stock them – the only exceptions being the SF and the buildings – which of course I can order for customers.

Broglie02 Oct 2014 8:30 a.m. PST

Old Glory Andy

Sorry I did not realise that.

I will have a look at your website now.

AUXILIAPAL,

That was an over site, I forgot to activate them when I added them to the web site. It is corrected and the Roman Cavalry can now be purchased.

OldGlory Andy03 Oct 2014 2:57 a.m. PST

We are now in the process of building a nice shiny new website which will have all the Blue Moon ,Old Glory Command Decison, Sash and Sabre etc etc that the old one has/had !! address will be the same but as always there are a few hoops to jump though. My blog and email are of course still open and whatever historical stuff Blue Moon brings out will be added to the OGUK website as I get it from the USA
