What's the verdict on this one? I haven't seen a lot of people talk about it yet.

Hmm, yeah, this edition of Warzone hasn't made any inroads around my area. A couple of local guys bought into the Kickstarter, played a few games when their books arrived, and soon dropped it.
I wish I had the wherewithal to bring the first edition into production.

1. Not carried by most FLGS's.

2. Prices even higher than GW's.

3. Only available in resin.

4. Limited marketing and advertising.

5. Prodos Games's spotty reputation.

… translate to Warzone Resurrection's appeal to only a small number of people who played the game when it was released by Target Games AB.

Resin ? no go on the mini's.

Are the rules an improvement?

I always felt the original first edition, completely broken as it was, was the best version.

We have a small group that plays it, I rather enjoy it.

The resin is OK, a bit soft actually so you have to be careful with the knife.

The sculpts are considerably better than my original sets, but then again I played Brotherhood back then so . . .

I think many stores have been burnt too may times by the game and simply refuse to carry it at this point, add to that, that no distributor will touch it either makes it difficult to get.

The Fanatic said it pretty well. If you don't want to sell any games or catch the interest of the gaming public follow the 5 steps he delineated. I would add they changed the scale of the game to kill off using figures of the old game with the new. Vindictiveness is a turn off. There was a large following and active forum at one time with several of the names I remember active on this forum.

Quite a shame actually as there were well defined factions and troop types. They made a movie about the game which can't be said about most. Lost opportunity for a big hit.

I am STILL a fan of first. I have several copies of all the 1st edition books. There was even a mod on how to play large battles in the back of the core rulebook for 1st. I love it! It's why I ended up buying every faction. I was in the Kickstarter to get the new rules. I kept hoping and thinking they'd get things rolling. That doesn't seem to be the case so far. Oh well, I can still use 1st. I have that file from the Ratsnest WZ site that has every stat for every unit and vehicle/weapon in the game. My buddy Rob has a bunch of Capitol troops. My son has a Bauhaus and dark Legion armies.

So play away!

I loved first, and shortly after I became a Sharpshooter (Target Games rep), 2nd edition came out. While 2nd lacked any differentiation between 90% of the army squads, players enjoyed the way 'generic' troop stats emphasized tactics over 'cheddar' the way some companies used codex creep to sell certain models, and I hosted tournaments where 20 entrants were the norm. Unfortunately, when Target bailed on the retailers, many of whom had significantly large investments in the game, Warzone became "that-which-shall-not-be-spoken". While Excelsior did a fair job with 3rd edition, the retailers had been burned quite enough, regardless of support. I was invited to playtest and rep "Warzone Ressuretion", and if you loved 1st edition, I believe you'll enjoy it, but the "fate cards" are not my cup of tea.

H I hope the army lists are more fleshed out now. The fate cards didn't not interest me either.

How large of a game will the rules readily handle?

Thanks,

John

There seems to be a trend to try and merge miniatures games with card games…the results of which leave me unconvinced. They seem to result in very gamey or friction you games…if that makes any sense.
