These are really little artistic gems. I saw them "in situ" at last year's SYWA convention. How do you put them together? Do you build them around a balsa or foam core block? |
Virtualscratchbuilder | 07 Dec 2010 7:59 p.m. PST |
Yes, a simple balsa block – 2 if the ship has a quarterdeck. The kit comes with a template for the blocks and sanding instructions. Honestly, if you follow the instructions you cannot go wrong, and if you fumble, just print out a new piece. Working at a leisurely pace you can put one together in an evening after work. |

How do you put them together? There's a free sample model on the "Ships" page of the website. A quick look through the instructions will answer pretty much any question you might have about the method of construction. For a quick, general idea of the method, have a look at this picture: picture Jeff |

Very nice to see another. Construction really is a breeze. Card stock, balsa, toothpicks and a bit of wire. The instructions are very clear and well illustrated with step by step photos. |

Those paper models are simply stunning! I hope eventually we will see even more of them in future. Imagine Trafalgar with paper models
Right, I better start building the test model now. Well done, War Artisan! Cheers S.P. |

Thanks, S.P. It might be a while before Trafalgar is possible (although I have done a prototype 64-gun ship-of-the-line in 1:600 with which I am very pleased). For now, I'm sticking with the small ships on inland waters theme; next up, Lake Erie 1813. Jeff |
