James,

Was it you that reported to the dealers group that attendance from all sources was 5600 at Historicon last year? If not I am sorry. We got a report that was detailed but no so much as what you just posted.

If so what adjustments happened to drive the averall attendance down? Or was the 5600 attnedance for all days? I would like to know what that number was because it is more relavent in my book. Everyday is a new day and If someone comes back for another go it is like yet another new attendee.

I know I have been attending the shows for nearly 20 years and I have never seen so many people at any of them as last years Historicon. On top of that there is Cold Wars which was through the roof last year as well.

Even with the concervative one day or multi day paid passes all three conventions draw in the neighborhood of 7500 attendees a year. That is pretty good for a convention that is 95% Historical. In my book at least. It is WAY bigger than Salute.

Just wondering.

We are a part of a very small hobby (historical miniature wargaming). Having been a part of a much, much larger hobby (baseball card collecting at its peak), I can say that conflicts of interest, differing points of views, inconsistencies in direction versus bylaws, and personality conflicts are not unique to HMGS-East.

I appreciate the efforts of all volunteers in every chapter or club. Without your time, energy, and leadership, wargaming would be even smaller.

The thing that HMGS E needs to do is a. ignore the resignation and/or b. issue an itemized reply addressing the clique problem and/or how the clique problem is handled internally.

There are clique's in every company and club; there's always someone vying for someone else's eye or to be "the closest confidant" or something like that. If the clique reality is a problem, I believe, we must all adopt in our own minds at least, a list of ways to keep it in check and if anyone asks, we should be able to produce it. Perhaps we/club organizers should always have someone who represents the loyal opposition? Remember even a president once said (over and over and over again), "it's hard work and uh it's hard work.."

Human nature is really hard to legislate. Some of us are not good at being and playing politics, some are. Let's get the people onto these boards that are, and keep the worker bees pulling off these great convention miracles.

I've been going to these conventions for years from when they were held in Harrisburg. I do appreciate anyone who volunteers their time and effort into making these con's happen. I think the best Bod members are the guys who actually talk and give you the time of day, whether you agree with them or not. Mike C. seemed to be of this category. I think the best bod member we had was Bob Giglio. Bring back Charles as King!
