Those fellows would be userful for all sorts of things.

I could use these for armed civilians on Mars in a VSF universe. Might have to pick up a few.

Valdez indeed!

These guys were dressed in hard wearing Victorian outdoors clothes rather than a uniform, so will actually do for any part of the world late 19th Century. We tried to make the rifle as close to a Martini Henry as we could, so if you are fussy about your weapons they won't do for the American West, but if you are not they'll fit in anywhere.

I assume these figures could be used as Boers for the 2nd Boer War? What rifle are they armed with? Sorry sent this before Nick's post above appeared.

Absolutely fantastic Nick! I shall have to swing by the workshop when I get back from holiday and pick some up. I can't believe you didn't mention these when I said I was going down to London for a big VSF game with the BLAM lot.

Hoping against all hope, do you have any intention of making the 'Protectorate Regiment' at all? I was hugely dissapointed when the Perry's released their Mafeking figures without them.

These are excellent figs. They will be very useful figures for all sorts of games of Darkest Africa, Back of Beyond, VSF, even up to VBCW. I am surprised that they are using Martin-Henrys past 1885 but I have seen pictures, such as this one with them.

Do note that there are some lever action rifles too, and maybe a Lee-Metford or two got into their hands. Perhaps the next pack will have weapons other than the Martini. Also the super weapon of the the day, the Maxim, is needed for any self-respecting BSAC patrol. The picture cited above has a Gardnier gun. If the Shangani patrol had a Maxim maybe they would not have been the Custer's last stand of Rhodesia.

Dunno, I don't think I have EVER seen a photo of a Boer with his sleeves rolled up. Have you?

Should pass for the Mexican Revolution and Portuguese in DA too.

Plynkes09 Feb 2010 3:32 a.m. PST

Bob and his dog: According to an old magazine article I have (in The Age of Empires magazine), the Martini was the issued weapon for BSAC troops.

Plynles, thanks for that confirmation. I have seen pictures with the MH. I was only suggesting, if another pack, that it have other contemporary weapons that are also shown -- lever action and bolt action.

Chick, right on. Those Boers were so formal, I do not think they ever took their jacket off, while outside.
