Can it be assembled without the howdah? I like giant spiders :D |

ummmmmmmmmm £36.00 GBP for a meh miniature no thanks. I must be getting old and cranky but a lot of the GW stuff just seems so
lacking in character. I find myself looking back to 80s citadel miniatures with more and more fondness. |

Its cool! But pricey like the rest. |
nycjadie | 18 Feb 2011 1:35 p.m. PST |
I think it's a great model. Super fragile, but a great model. |

Can it be assembled without the howdah? I like giant spiders Seconded. Looks like it might be okay sans howdah, but hard to be sure from the sprue shots. Super fragile Can't possibly match the Battlefleet Gothic cruisers with their insane forest of masts and antenni sticking out at all angles. :) |
RelliK | 18 Feb 2011 1:46 p.m. PST |
I would of like to have seen it infested with snotlings! |
Guinny | 18 Feb 2011 1:52 p.m. PST |
Glenn M/BWS: From the article they posted about it a while ago, it certainly looks like it can be assembled without the Goblins: link |

HHHmmm my little green dudes may need some reinforcement. this would do the trick |
darthfozzywig | 18 Feb 2011 2:03 p.m. PST |
My FLGS owner is assembling one sans howdah, so yes, you can. As far as "meh" goes, that's grouch-colored glasses you're wearing. It's a very nicely detailed model and quite creeptacular in person. I'm trying to think of a way to incorporate one (just the spider) into my current RPG, but that screams "TPK" and I'm not quite ready to kill all the players. Yet. :) |

Yes can be assembled without the howdah. its pretty creepy. link nycjadie I dont think its going to be any more fragile than any other plastic kit, certainly better than an tin one. Its pretty solid and once you get it on the base it will be even better. |

Stunning model all around. If I had a use for it I'd buy one in a country minute! Apparently disliked intensely by those that dislike this sort of thing, or GW in general. 8)= |
RobH | 18 Feb 2011 4:50 p.m. PST |
Have to disagree. It is messy, over detailed, far too busy and way too big a "footprint" to sit well on anything but the largest of games tables. Stupid. Look for them part finished/abandoned on eBay in a couple of months. |
CmdrKiley | 18 Feb 2011 5:27 p.m. PST |
I have to admit I like it. It reminds me of Chronopia's Swamp Goblins. |
Scorpio | 18 Feb 2011 5:59 p.m. PST |
Fun-haters hate on fun. If any smaller company put out this model, people would be complimenting it left and right. But GW puts it out, and of course the naysayers come out to drop their wisdom. |

RelliK wrote: I would of like to have seen it infested with snotlings! "He's headed for that Snotling Pump Wagon." "That's no Snotling Pump Wagon. It's an Arachnarok Spider!" RelliK, I think if you cram a couple of dozen Snotlings onto that howdah, no one will mind. :) |
richarDISNEY | 18 Feb 2011 6:08 p.m. PST |
I really like it, BUT
I'd like to see it next to some regular GW figs standing next to it.
|
Space Monkey | 18 Feb 2011 6:23 p.m. PST |
I like it
I'm thinking I'd use it as a fantasy version of an Ogre supertank for 'Song of Blades and Heroes'
one humongous spider covered in goblin archers/slingers vs. a medium-sized warband. If I can make the howdah detachable (magnets?) then it can serve double purpose in games of Monster Island and various RPGs. The footprint doesn't seem like it would be much larger than the average 40K tank. Surely not too large to have at least 2 or three in every goblin army

I absolutely love this model. I will definitely get one. |

The creepy part is the model is bigger than real spiders

I want it for post-apocalyptic games and pulp/cthulhu. Personally, I think it's a pretty cool kit. Joey |

That is one nasty looking spider – though this being GW model, the price tag is probably equally nasty! Looking at the sprue pics, it seems that you could perfectly well assemble the model as just plain spider without the howdah (which seems to be just a couple of pieces that can be placed on the sides of the model) and make the goblins instead into a warband on foot. Those gobboes look pretty characterful. I guess the reviewers went a bit too happy and tried to fit every possible piece on the model, resulting in a rather crowded look. I guess this is one of those models where "less is more" approach would work. |
Space Monkey | 19 Feb 2011 1:47 p.m. PST |
It looks like they used the catapult option
but other than that it's just hard to read it because it isn't painted yet
just a mass of gray. I'm definitely getting one once they start turning up used on Ebay. |
Griefbringer | 19 Feb 2011 3:44 p.m. PST |
Not really sure if I would like to get one of these second-hand. This looks like one of those models where a careless or inexperienced modeller could end up with a quite botched up assembly, that would not be easy to re-do. |
Space Monkey | 19 Feb 2011 5:06 p.m. PST |
Well
you have to be patient and wait for the right careless and inexperienced modeller
the one who hasn't even begun putting the thing together. The kid who got four of them for Christmas
but puberty arrived in January and Warhammer is now the furthest thing from his mind. |
Alxbates | 19 Feb 2011 5:58 p.m. PST |
I do kinda like it. Heck, I like the name – ARACHNOROK! Sounds like the title of a GWAR album. As someone above mentioned, it brings Chronopia Swamp Goblins to mind. It's a great centerpiece model, but I do think that it has such a huge footprint on the table that it's useless in all but the biggest games. Then again, that seems to fit in with Games Workshop's constant army up-sizing business model. It also looks like something out of World of Warcraft, and not at all from the Adrian Smith/Les Edwards/John Blanche-designed Warhammer world that I loved so much as a teen. Overall it gets a great big "meh" from me. Don't love it, don't hate it. I kinda like the audacity and size of it, but not enough to every buy one or paint one. -Alex in Alaska |

I like the idea, I just don't like the execution. Like the Rhenish Prince Rupert, I'm looking back towards older Citadel to fill out my fantasy armies because they had more character! This model just looks too busy! |
khurasanminiatures | 20 Feb 2011 8:26 a.m. PST |
I'm completely amazed that people are griping at this model, as it is across-the-board STUNNING! And IMO the price is fantastic for such a huge model. I'm just worried because my own black powder spider-men are called the Arak
