When I was in the military back in the early 70's the word was that you could always tell members of the Berlin Brigade by the big "P-O-W" on the backs of their uniforms. Typical military gallows humor.

thumbs up I was a Cold War Warrior too, '79-'90. Commanded an M113 Mech Co '87-'89.

Of course we knew our M113s were not that well armored and had to make sure we didn't spend too much time in the open. frown

Commanded a M2 Mech Company in Germany in 85. We served as a covering force for a M1 Battalion in our GDP position. Great times!

Sorry for the late reply. I commanded an M113 Co, '87-'89[18 months]. With the 197th Mech Hvy Bde (SEP) out of Ft. Benning, GA. The now "deactivated" 197th was part of the 18th ABN Corps. For heavy support of the 101 and 82d, the other units in the 18th. We deployed to West Germany for REFORGER, '88. then later to the NTC.

The 197th had 2 Mech Bns[both M113s] and 1 Tank Bn. Plus 1 SPFA 155 Bn, Armored CE Co., Armored CAV Troop, MP Plt and CBT SPT BN.

The Tank Bn was unique in that it had 3 M60A1 Cos. and 1 M1IP Co.
