Truly impressive. I would've guessed laser-etched steel rather than white metal for these. The good looks are ironic give how ugly the USS Tuscumbia was considered to be. That model looks to be well researched as well as the contemporary illustrations don't match each other so that must've been difficult to come up with an accurate depiction. Wyatt |

No interest in these at all but boy are they beautiful! |

I would have never gotten into this era (ironclads) had it not been for these Thoroughbred figures. I have about 30 now and each is a true work of art, not just a toy ship. VR James Mattes |

Agreed, James. When did these first come out, 15 years ago or so? I started buying them then, and I haven't stopped. I buy one or two each year. Beautiful models. |

Those are absolutely amazing. I don't find the rare ship vs. ship encounter to be all that interesting, but the battles between the US fleets and rebel forts are fascinating and it would be really fun to use these beautiful models for that. |

Wow! Make a longship and you'll have me at hello! Kidding, but seriously gorgeous models. |
Troop of Shewe | 12 Feb 2009 11:59 a.m. PST |
what rules do you use for these, the ones on the website seem to encompass all, land, sea and seige, is that how you play with these toys? |
The G Dog | 12 Feb 2009 12:11 p.m. PST |
Gorgeous model of CSS Missouri! It goes on the 'must have' list. Tuscumbia is also a very pretty casting. Its a pig of a ship, but its a beautiful model. |

Troop of Shewe, The guys at Thoroughbred also own the rights to "Ironclads" by Yaquinto, that I bought in 1979. These are probably the "best" rules for the period, at least thats what I have read by many folks that have played allot of different rules. Funny, just this week we received our custom river mat from HOTZ Mats (we ordered it back in September 07, but thats another story) it has 3" hexes on one side, no hexes on the other. We are going to play our 1st game of IRONCLADS this weekend! We haven't played in over 20 years. We've bought about 25 or so Thoroughbred ships since last year along with 4 or 5 forts. Can't wait! The folks at Thoroughbred keep saying they are gonna convert the hex-based game of Ironclads into a true inch-based minis game, but they have been saying that for years now! I think I'll end up doing it myself. Either way now we have the ways & means to do it both ways! I must say they are by far my favorite ACW naval rules. You should give 'em a go. Peter |

We use Ironclads. Toby says he is still interested in computerizing the rules, I hope he does, that would be a brilliant way to play! |

Andy, I'm with ya! I talk to him at H-con every year, trying to push him on. I know he's got other things going on but, man, if he would do that, I think he'd sell even more ships! BTW, I really enjoy your East Front book! I got it from ya last year @ H-con. I think you played in my game, or maybe one of your friends did, all I know is I got your book during my game & love it! Now put something out for CROSSFIRE! Thanks, Peter |

We converted Ironclads, too. Great game! |

Man, those are sooooo pretty! Not my period
but my brain is straining to find a reason to own them. |

Does anyone know if Mr Barrett sells the rules to Yaguinto's game or some version thereof? -- Tim |

Tim, Here is the link about Toby & Ironclads TMP link from 1999! I think we should all get on him and see if we can convince him that he'd sell allot of copies & even more ships! Peter |

This announcement was delayed in posting and I thought I was going mind flaky there for a moment as I didn't ask Bill to post it this week. Anyway, I wanted to formulate some answers for you all before this drops off the news page in another day or two. A customer has read this thread and contacted me by email. After some thought I answered him with the following and hope that others will read it and understand somewhat of what's going on. "Thank you for your concern. This has been a long and slow active process. If anyone had told me it would have taken this long when I acquired the copyrights to the Ironclads game series years ago I would have said they were nuts. But it really has worked out that way. There are other considerations involved here – with other work and projects that are just as important to me. All along I have wanted the end product to be just as I want it, and an even better game if I'm successful. To the chagrin of many that plan has not changed. It won't come out until I can come as close to that desired end product as I can make it. If you've seen my work in other things then you may understand this somewhat. I don't make a lot of money at what I do – despite what some may believe – and I have never been one to put out something before it was truly ready just to make a quick buck. Some may indeed call this a business flaw. In the end I may be unsuccessful in achieving what I want to do and there may be some let downs over the final product. I hope not.Plenty of gamers already use the series for miniatures in their own groups and local gaming, and I've openly told those waiting to keep after me
..which some like Keven Smyth out in Washington state (who I know well and met years ago) do all too well.I will be finishing a big block of work on it this summer and may see an end in sight by then.Be patient and I sincerely believe the wait will be worth it." Thank you all for your comments about my work in this thread and I hope to have some good news someday about the Ironclads rules. I do feel uncomfortable when addressed as "Mr. Barrett". Makes me feel older than I seem to be. Toby Barrett Thoroughbred Figures |

Hey, that was me he replied to! I was gonna post it myself this am , but wasn't sure Toby would want me to, since I asked in a personal e-mail. Glad to see he posted for everyone to read. So, as we see, it's still gonna be a wait, but I think it will be worth it! Thanks Toby. Peter |
