This is cool, but how do you get rid of all the ridges in these 3D printed models. My brother has a 3D printer and what it has produced is cool, but suffers from the same problem. Thoughts?

There are ways to do so. Sanding would be possible, but annoying at this scale. Coating with self-leveling epoxy; or "melting" with the appropriate solvent. The actual solvent varies by the type of 3D printing material used -- acetone in the case of ABS.
