Oh good grief.

I read the article and find that, after a possible temporary delay, retail price for US buyers from this company will be 10% less than currently. The difference will be shipping costs, but that may wind up with a 3 day delivery time, and the actual increase may be small (or not at all). So net result is a benefit to US consumers of this company's products. Sounds like a win to me.

Parzival – how is a 10% increase plus extra shipping costs a 10% decrease. The 20% deduction of VAT already happens for foreign orders from the UK (at least for Brigade Models as they are VAT registered) it is not happening because Deleted by Moderator

Deleted by Moderator I really appreciate the transparency and details provided by Brigade and others as they are attempting organizationally and financially to respond to the new retail and import/export landscape. It cannot be easy (in large part because so much remains unclear), and will also be injurious, both to US consumers, who will pay more (the tariff is a tax on consumers), and to shippers, who will be faced with extra paperwork and time in dealing with a large percentage of their paying customers. The vagaries of international shipping ae already tough to negotiate (in Canada, Canada Post handling fees and courier brokerage charges often double the cost of actual shipping and handling, and the combination of such things is almost never clear at point of order), and now will be tougher still, despite the work of national postal systems, shippers, and third-party retailers. Thanks to Brigade and others for sharing information, and best wishes in negotiating the new landscape for sales.

@FlyXwire

I've seen about 6 UK based wargames companies who are doing the same , there could be more that I don't follow on FB or elsewhere . So even if they have a US 3rd party seller , products will still probably cost more . Battlefront's factory is in Malaysia , so at a guess they will be hit with a 25% tariffs ?

@ Parzival

If you buy something for 100GBP , knock off 20% VAT then you would pay 80GBP . From the 29th Aug you have to add 10% from the UK , so that means you would pay 88GBP or 90GBP if based on full cost .

Also you didn't pay anything extra under $800 USD , with the de minimis exemption .

So explain how it is cheaper ?

Parzival was probably confused by the VAT. He may not have realized that it is already exempted for many foreign purchases (including getting it reembursed when people outside countries with VAT travel in, buy stuff, and go home), because the US has no such tax.

We have sales tax on final purchase, not VAT at separate stages of the supply chain. They are very different animals. Also, VAT is very broadly applied, while sales taxes are local and much more focused (and variable).

From that perspective, it could easily look like subtracting 20% of the cost being a new thing instead of continuation of the status quo.

This is a very pragmatic and sensible strategy to my eyes -- Brigade is to be congratulated for working through this new problem as best as can be expected. Deleted by Moderator

I'm only cutting the political comments. If the facts are mixed in with politics, well… grin

I don't remember what I posted that was SNIPPED. I object to this, just the same. Be noted, Editor. I try to maintain an even, neutral political keel in my posts but it's very hard to know when someone is going to make a fuss.

These are not simple times.

It is hard when making a post about Tarrifs not to mention anything political in your eyes.

So it seems a lot of postal services won't be delivering to the US , until everything is sorted .

Hopefully Donald will have a stroke one of these days and we can end all of this B.S.
