Does anyone know if the cards are going to be made available separate from the models?

Ditto-?

Wargamer Blue18 Mar 2017 6:55 p.m. PST

I hope so.

It would be a sneaky way to get back at those who buy Command Decision or Plastic Soldier Company troops.

Remember a few years ago when Battlefront tried to mandate exclusive use of their figures in tournaments?
So now if you have to buy their models to get the cards…..

I doubt BF will make the cards available separately for those who buy their competitors' models, but you can make your own. You won't even need Photoshop to do it. I made some Team Yankee cards for the T-55AM2 and BTR-60 recently using Powerpoint.

Hmmm, I see what you mean, but the way I was thinking, given that most of us already have completed FoW armies and are moving to the new edition that it would be nice to also have access to the cards if we wanted them.

Lovely to see a new codex out, 'spend more money on armies you already own to be allowed to play', kind of like buying Apple………..

Dedthom19 Mar 2017 4:11 p.m. PST

Corwin,
It is called the "GW theory of business growth".

chasseur19 Mar 2017 4:14 p.m. PST

Corwin,
Exactly! Shut up and take my money! LOL

It doesn't sound like cards going to be available outside of the model boxes.

From the official forum.

My fellow gamers are wondering:
"How will I get unit cards for the Flames of War armies I ALREADY have?"
That depends on what period you're playing.

If you are playing Mid War, then the Unit Cards come with the appropriate models. If you have existing models, you can just buy the Desert Rats or Afrika Korps book as they have all the information that you need in them.

If you are playing Early or Late War, there are no cards. The Version 4 Early War/Late War book uses the existing Intel Briefings and stats with a few minor changes as stated in the book.

Cheers

This question has been tossed around for a while with the Team Yankee release and the answer appears to be that most of the cards are released on the website.

These pages have most of the cards that have been put out so far.

All that are missing are the formation cards, and you get that with the army books for the 8th Army and the DAK. They run about $20 USD each. I'm on the fence about it myself because I'm a late war player. I might make the leap because I do like the desert war, but I don't know if I want to spend the money.

chasseur19 Mar 2017 6:17 p.m. PST

Thanks for that info, well that clears up that.
Honestly, I think that they are missing an opportunity here, but whatever.

They will have Mid War card-only packs available this summer.

From the FOW Site:

The first command card packs are scheduled to come out after the initial wave of Mid War releases. These packs will be specific to a nation and contain 50+ cards with everything from famous warriors to new objectives to fight over. As you will see below, some of the guys have refered to upcoming command cards in their forces. Although we can't show you all of the detail now, it is important to understand these cards are coming and will add a new level to the armies within the books.

About half way down the article under "Command Cards"

I'm intrigued, and in a good way. I'm thinking that the unit & formation cards could make building a force a bit easier, but it seems strange that cards don't list point values on them. Time to grit my teeth and deal with impatience though, as I'm a Mid-War Soviet player, so no telling when I'll get to see definite info.

The points values are on the back of the cards just like Team Yankee.

The "front" is game stats while the "back" is army building points and rules summary for the special abilities noted on the front.

Example from the DAK army box:

Cool, thanks! I know nothing about Team Yankee.

3720to120 Mar 2017 12:01 p.m. PST

You're welcome!

Team Yankee is basically Flames of War with 80's tanks.

A lot of the FoW 4th Edition changes were presented in Team Yankee first.

So…I'm still confused. The cards are in the new book(s) and with the models, but not available separately? Or just with the models?

If in the book, are they punch-out cards or you have to photocopy?

3720to120 Mar 2017 3:48 p.m. PST

Models will come with cards for that specific model.

Cards will also be available in "Command Cards pack" of roughly 50 cards per nation.

The "cards" are in the book. The catch here is that in the book, the "cards" are printed on the page for each entry. The same design files are used, so the info all matches. However, they are not punch-out and if you photocopy them, you'll need to cut them out.

The example below is from WWPD's review of the Afrika Korps book.

I think this is somewhat misleading. From what I understand from the article on the FOW website and the discussion on the FOW forum, these "Command Cards" are all new cards with new, additional units/formations/heroes, not reprints of the cards from the two books or which come with the miniatures.

3720to121 Mar 2017 11:00 a.m. PST

Interesting. I had not read that the packs would not include the reprints from the books.

Could you post a link to the discussion where you heard this?

mdauben22 Mar 2017 8:04 a.m. PST

Its not so much that its been stated they *won't* contain reprints of the cards from the books, as that nothing been said about them indicates they *will*. There has been talk about new units and new formations and the introduction of MW heroes, but nothing about reprinting the cards that already exist.

3720to123 Mar 2017 12:05 p.m. PST

Gotchya. It's a "Glass Half Full/Half Empty" situation. You'll be pleasantly surprised if they do and I'll be disappointed if they don't.
