Well I'm not going to condone Mr. Berry's actions. He is a criminal and it appears the justice system will deal with him appropriately.

Too bad for the rest of us. Michigan Toy soldier carried stuff you could not easily find elsewhere.

(From the video) "He made a mistake"?! He's a crook, plain and simple. Theft is theft.

Thanks for the link, Gorb. It appears the charges to Jackson's credit card were caught in 2007, and that he's hoping for house arrest rather than actual jail.

BlackWidowPilot Fezian26 Jan 2011 6:33 p.m. PST

Jesus, Joseph, Mary, and the mule they all rode in on. I've done great business with MTS in the past, and this simply leaves me at a loss for words…

Very sad, inexcusable conduct.

So just what did Peter Jackson buy in the first place?

Long Island Gamer26 Jan 2011 6:36 p.m. PST

It's heartbreaking.

I guess the filthy rich do check their receipts.

I'd guess that the business is still going on and on sound standing, or are we to believe that the business is closed?

Dan

AppleMak26 Jan 2011 6:44 p.m. PST

Not to condone what he did, but how can anyone not notice $180,000 missing? Jeez, what credit card limit does Jackson have? I'd miss $18.00!

Wargamer Blue26 Jan 2011 6:49 p.m. PST

Absolutely dishonest. Criminal act that deserves nothing but jail.

kyoteblue26 Jan 2011 6:50 p.m. PST

Boy am I glad I don't have a Credit Card.

Skeptic26 Jan 2011 6:51 p.m. PST

I wonder how many former, current, and potential customers would trust him after that…?

MOUTH OF THE SOUTH26 Jan 2011 6:52 p.m. PST

So just what did Peter Jackson buy in the first place?

Probably a 1:1 scale model of the Marines raising the Flag at Iwo Jima.

DesertScrb26 Jan 2011 6:52 p.m. PST

According to the print article, he was still running the business and paying restitution. His sentencing date is Feb. 7.

peru52200026 Jan 2011 6:53 p.m. PST

Wow am I surprised. I have been in the store several times as I just live down the road from it. Just shocked, always treated so nice when in there that I can't believe something like this was going on. Truly disappointing!

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian26 Jan 2011 6:54 p.m. PST

I've been asked if Michigan Toy Soldier was an advertiser on TMP.

They are an ex-advertiser; their account was cut off for non-payment in early 2010.

combatpainter Fezian26 Jan 2011 6:56 p.m. PST

Bad….

SgtPain26 Jan 2011 7:00 p.m. PST

Wow…

I don't know which is more upsetting to me, the fact that I shop there and used my CC, or the fact that I will now have to order most of my painting supplies and all of my plastic figures online.

WarDepotDavid26 Jan 2011 7:01 p.m. PST

What a Bleeped text!

deanoware26 Jan 2011 7:04 p.m. PST

Just passed the store today. But oddly enough didn't stop in, just didn't feel like I should. Now this.

Sad as many have said. It is a great store but he has a MASSIVE inventory of toy soldiers – very high end type – that I just can't believe are selling well in this economy.

CmdrKiley26 Jan 2011 7:05 p.m. PST

Yeah, I've been there several times and used my CC in all cases. Fortunately I didn't see anything show up on my statement.

I'm already getting over an issue where a dealership just bilked me, so I have no sympathy for the man.

Warlord26 Jan 2011 7:06 p.m. PST

WOW!! – A desperate man no doubt, these times are going to make and/or break a lot of people/ businesses.

Another hit in the industry, I am afraid this won't be the last of bad news…

Very sad indeed.

What was he thinking? Did he really believe that he could charge $189,000 to Peter Jackson's credit card and not get caught?

I just ordered and received some minis from him last month, and was really pleased. Too bad, he had some nice, hard-to-find stuff. Well, if not this, it sounds like his business was going south anyway.

I'll just ditto the "wow" comments.

I love that shop. I am afraid that this will destroy it. I feel really bad for his school age daughters. The confusion and disappointment they must feel right now: awful.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian26 Jan 2011 7:23 p.m. PST

these times are going to make and/or break a lot of people/ businesses.

He claims in the video that his business was hurt by the bad economy; he told me his business was hurt by a bad partner in 2009… BUT… according to the print article, he was caught stealing from Jackson in 2007!!!

Warlord26 Jan 2011 7:24 p.m. PST

I feel really bad for his school age daughters.

Oh my Lord, they will be some of the true casualties in this. They have my prayers.

Since so many companies in this business are Ma & Pa enterprises, I somehow expect/assume that they are all to be honest. This really shakes things up. Wow.

Never ordered from the shop but do love looking at their catalogues – some great stuff in there. Peter Jackson is a collector (check out the Perry Miniatures site for the Peter Jackson sculpts………large scale Aussie WW2 brilliance and they don't sculpt for just anyone!) – it is a shame that anybody comes to this, he must have been really desparate. If I had that sort of money (as Peter Jackson has) I'd make Rick pay it back in other ways and not press charges. Not condoning the actions though, just appreciate how desparate he must have been.
