They look like water lillies.

I thought they looks like ash trays made for Fathers Day by first graders.

Dave Crowell27 Sep 2014 7:32 p.m. PST

I dunno, they look a bit like chocolate no-bake cookis to me. But maybe that's because I'm hungry.

Cheomesh27 Sep 2014 7:40 p.m. PST

The craters are terrible. The house isn't bad but isn't anything particularly interesting.

Not a lot of love for them here, is there?

skippy000127 Sep 2014 9:29 p.m. PST

I'd check the Osprey book of Craters before judging them-maybe it's the way they're painted and photographed?

kallman27 Sep 2014 10:11 p.m. PST

Yea normally the Battlefront/GF9 predone terrain is good to excellent. This is a fail.

Citizen Kenau27 Sep 2014 10:43 p.m. PST

Pancakes were actually a common meal in the trenches. The scale is a bit off though….

The house seems identical to that released in GBX22 with the Jagdpanther. For craters… there certainly are cheaper ways to achieve the same (or better) results.

The house is nice, though.

They're totally brilliant.

Why do you people hate BF so much? They're just brilliant. Everything they do is just so wonderful.

Paint these brown and hey presto.

Winston Smith28 Sep 2014 3:30 a.m. PST

The thing that looks worst about them is the visible shadow where the lip of the "wall" meets the ground. It doesn't blend into the ground at all.
Add the price to that defect.

Volleyfire28 Sep 2014 4:08 a.m. PST

Judging by the photo Winston the lilies in Porkmann's pic suffer from the same shadow defect. But then they lie on the surface, just like these craters do.Perhaps Mother Nature is also at fault? ;)

Dave Crowell28 Sep 2014 5:07 a.m. PST

I don't think our joking is a Battlefront thing. The craters simply do not look like very inspiring terrain in the photo. I would say the same if the were coming from thePerry boys

rvandusen Supporting Member of TMP28 Sep 2014 6:05 a.m. PST

The craters are a good idea, but show the problem faced by compromising between a playable terrain piece and a realistic one. The real thing would be much deeper, but if made with more depth, the sides would look too high.

On the other hand, making them realistic by carving them into a terrain board can make them somewhat less flexible.

HammerHead28 Sep 2014 9:03 a.m. PST

how much are they asking for the pack?

Ceterman28 Sep 2014 9:21 a.m. PST

On the site it says $29 USD

Porkmann28 Sep 2014 9:45 a.m. PST

Really, they just look bad.

Joes Shop Supporting Member of TMP28 Sep 2014 10:04 a.m. PST

Unfortunately, agreed.

Charlie 1228 Sep 2014 12:10 p.m. PST

$29 USD for a sad looking house and sadder looking crater wannabes? BF really missed it with this dog.

And they're still tagging it as 'WWII Miniatures Game'. Don't recall seeing any A7Vs in WWII.

Can't believe you guys are getting away with dissing BF without getting abused for it. I guess everyone has a different level of tolerance.

These are an epic fail by any stretch of the imagination. It's hard to imagine how they got past any in-house quality control at all. It sort of screams "Those schmucks out there will buy anything".

And we don't even care if we get the war wrong on the box.

I think I found where the sculptor got the inspiration for the crater design

GGouveia28 Sep 2014 4:34 p.m. PST

I usually like the BF prepainted but those shell holes are not very good. Hard to create large craters with portable terrain.

They are the ones behind Flames of War so we can start there.

We are not allowed to diss atrocious terrain like this? I thought this was a wargaming forum. These things are horrible, no matter who makes them. Even GW makes better ones

Irony is an acquired taste, it seems :)

Privateer4hire28 Sep 2014 9:37 p.m. PST

Are those just above GW ones?
They look like the pre-painted ones I have from Pegasus.

Irony, – that's like coppery isn't it, only with iron instead of copper?

Abwehrschlacht29 Sep 2014 2:20 a.m. PST

These are the best terrain pieces I have ever seen, I will immediately buy one hundred of them.

Volleyfire29 Sep 2014 4:17 a.m. PST

Looks like GW put just a tad more thought into the design of theirs.

mdauben29 Sep 2014 7:16 a.m. PST

I'm actually a fan of Battlefront and like their Flames of War line. I've got a large collection of their books, figures and vehicles and have enjoyed them for years.

That said… I'm afraid I have to agree these Large Craters are not very well done. Their previous release containing multiple smaller craters wasn't that great, but even they are better than these.

I think there are better options for precast craters available.

HammerHead29 Sep 2014 10:16 a.m. PST

must have been a big old cannon to make a crater like that

I agree with Trebian I believe some manufactures are willing to sell us anything.

Trebian Sponsoring Member of TMP29 Sep 2014 11:14 a.m. PST

MammerHead – I guess that they're trying to simulate a mine crater. If so, it's a bit small. And really, really not deep enough.
