Well, more needed Texas Rangers. Excellent figures. The best. I do worry about some of the horse poses, though. They're very fragile. I've already had one horse snap right off its base, while being painted. I'll rescue the figure though, by drilling and brass rod. I shouldn't have to do that. |

John the OFM…many thanks for the kind comments glad you like the Rangers comment noted its hard to get figures realistic looking and not bulk up the legs but in essence they work a treat ! regards Ged gringo40s.com |

What's the solution to the problem? |

Allow me to elaborate here. Gringo40s cavalry are priced on the high side. I would never consider them for something like Waterloo or Eylau, with dozens of figures would be needed. But, with Comanche vs Ranger battles (skirmishes, really) each figure is different. I snort when anyone asks how to paint the Comanche or Texas Ranger "uniform". Seriously? The most individualistic warriors ever? I choose "The Outlaw Josie Wales" as a Comanche "uniform guide". Every Comanche is different. There are war bonnets, buffalo heads, etc. Yet, Ten Bears, the chief, rides bareback, with two lone feathers on his head. So, each figure is totally different, even within a "unit". There is no 3rd Durango Light Dragoons. There is "His Dogs Bark at Strangers and His Merry Men". So I feel the price is justified. If you want to see price gouging, I suggest you look at 40K command figures. 🙄 So, over the past year or two, I've purchased roughly 20 Gringo40s mounted figures. None are duplicates. All unique. Yes, I'm uneasy about the horses' legs. I do not like horses with only two legs on the ground, particularly if they are "anatomically correct". I prefer exaggerated thickness. The figure I complained about above had two feet connected to the ground. After gluing Screaming Crow to the horse, and priming, I set him aside for a week or so. Admittedly, the tray was crowded, and jumbled. Upon retrieving for painting, he was laying in his side. While trying to straighten him out, the figure came completely off. It won't be the first time that I've drilled out a base, and ran a brass rod through it and into the belly of the horse. It won't be the last, either. I also use a gob of 24hour JB Weld in the hooves. I'll just add extra flocking to the joint. Not a big issue. I've dealt with it before with other companies. I'm simply uneasy with the poses, and would prefer "more hooves on the ground", and more robust hooves on the ground too. |

I recently bought all of the Gringo rangers and Comanche, and am slowly painting them. Beautiful and large, and now, sigh, I'll have to get more. Ged is great to deal with. Haven't tackled the mounted figs yet, and thanks to John I shall be extra careful. Btw, I have the Miniature Building Authority' ranch house, a great focus for a scenario, but does anyone make an adobe type barn to go with it? All my barns are wooden. |

And John, yes, I shall go back and watch (for the fifth time or so) Josey Wales and the Comanche. Scale is an issue if one allows it to be: I have a lot of Old Glory and Boot Hill and others, and the Gringo's are BIG. But real people and horses vary too, and it matters less in skirmishes, I'm using homebrew rules that borrow a lot from RAILWARS and SONG OF BLADES and SHRP PRACTICE and some other systems, and right now am tending towards warbands or "possses" of five ordinary fighters, all identical in weapons and skills, led by a "big man" with leadership skills and often better stats. I may end up using many of the Gringos as literal "big men" who will stand out and be readily distinguishable to my players. |

John, how do you base? I've gone back and forth for decades, but now am tending to put figures on THICK bases that allow handling without grabbing feathers and coup sticks and, I guess, fragile horse legs. Fortunately and unfortunately I mostly play solo, but even so bits do break off, even with careful handling. |

Scale is an issue if one allows it to be… I hardly ever do. 👍 I deal with any scale issues by putting "units" on different parts of the table. "True 25mm" on the left side, 28mm that are really closer to 31mm on the right. Easy! Just don't mix them in the same unit. Duh. There are those who like to complain about weapon scale conflicting with figure scale. 🤷 Me, I call a long arm a musket if the scenario calls for it, and next game it's a rifle. Nobody is knocking on my door to tell me "Stop that!" In fact, if the scenario dictates that the whole unit be armed with bows, I have no qualms about adding rifle armed figures, gunstock war club and coup stick figures. |

Yes, I am similarly flexible with regard to such things. |

BTW, everyone seems to agree that rangers had no uniform but the Gringos sure seem to have a bunch in uniform hats. Which I love. The SAVAGE FRONTIER books (middle one) show the Texans deploying all sort of units, both ad hoc and organized. Which sometime included elements or veterans of "regulars." I love the companies that were called "Mounted Gunners." |
