Thanks – I have ordered from them before several times. I'll go give them a look. I don't know why I have not thought of that before. I actually don't buy a lot of gaming magazines, but this one sounded like it had a lot of good articles. |

Another great read! :) Mick |

I have to say that I thought Rick's column was a bit garbled, he seems to be saying that we should not bother with historical research but just watch films instead. I thought that was a bit odd. I sometimes get the impression he says anything just to fill space, and this was another example of that. A better read than WI that"s for sure. |

Rossco Watkins, 'Project Company – A comparison review of Flames of War (version III), Kampfgruppe Normandy and IABSM'. Bit late? No one can purchase Kampfgruppe Normandy anymore so an article for those have then
useless. |
| Royal Marine | 30 Jun 2012 2:26 a.m. PST |
I would argue that a review is still useful as there will be many copies for sale, both new and second hand for Kampfgruppe Normandy. Have you seen the article? |
| Gecoren | 30 Jun 2012 2:30 a.m. PST |
Is a comparative review of Kampfgruppe Normandy useless? :-) That depends rather on what Battlegroup Kursk looks like
I understand the new game will be similar to the now extinct KGN, thus our inclusion of KGN in our comparison. I'll get Rossco to look at Battlegroup Kursk when we have a review copy. Cheers, Guy |

Picked up WI and WSS yesterday, and having thumbed through both last night I have to say that WSS gets the bigger thumbs up again. WI looks interesting for a change as I've always like the Battle of the Bulge, but really if I want to read a history of the battle I'll buy a book written by a renowned historical author thanks rather than read along winded potted history. WSS scores for me by not only having columns by Messrs Preistley et al, something MW has obviously noted and drawn on, but also the type font, pics and layout are easy on the eye. |

WSS is my magazine of choice now. There's always something worth reading. The articles by Rick Priestley and Richard Clarke are always worth a read. |

Who sells this state side? As Glenn said, some Barnes & Noble's carry it, including my local one (which I'm sure calls in a luck marker I would have otherwise used to win the lottery). I'm looking forward to this one. I'm not big on the colonials aspect, but looks like there's some other good stuff in here. Still waiting for a WSS theme in WSS magazine! |

Hi Tin Soldier Man. Interesting you read it that way. My impression was he was saying we shouldn't be afraid to have fun. I don't think anyone would ever suggest not researching, but 'historical fiction' (like 'Sharpe') can be a great inspirer, especially at skirmish level. |

Is anyone afraid to have fun when gaming? I have yet to meet anyone who is. As I said, I did think it was a bit garbled, so maybe I lost the message somewhere. Perhaps I should read his column again. |

Hi Tin Soldier Man. Sorry, I expressed myself badly. I think it was more the urge we had back in the day to justify playing with soldiers. Now all I have to do is justify the exepsnse to SWMBO. |

Is anyone afraid to have fun when gaming? I have yet to meet anyone who is. I can think of a few rules lawyers who seemed to take winning at all costs much more importantly than having 'fun' on a club night. Grimacing, furrowed brows and frowning seemed more likely than smiling certainly. I bet most clubs have one example tucked away somewhere in a corner. |

I enjoyed the Colonial Gaming/Saga mashup. Sorry for using the word mashup. |

I thought the review of CS Grant's "The Wolfenbuttel War" was exceptional. Exceptional in that the reviewer had clearly never read "The Wargame" by Charles Grant – and hence had no idea of the back story of the Vereinigte Frei Stadt and the Grand Duchy of Lorraine. While having failed to read one of the seminal wargaming books shouldn't be a disqualification for a reviewer (and doesn't make his comments about the book itself invalid) you've got to wonder how they find their reviewers
But overall it was a good issue – I've no interest in colonial wargaming whatsoever (which is always a risk of these themed issues) but I enjoyed it. WSS is solidly ahead of both Battlegames (which seems to have less and less of interest these days) and WI in terms of content and is thus firmly on my "buy" list. |
