Ok, you tell me what the rules cover in terms of period, and the sample page shows generals.

But what are the mechanics, are they free control, pips, card driven?

Is it, igo-yougo?

Do the later rules differentiate Dutch Platoon firing and the Swedes fire and charge methods?

How are cavalry handled?

There's a flash preview and a pdf preview on the product page on Wargame Vault.

The PDF covers generals….

Why 1717 and not 1721 i.e. the end of the GNW?

Looks like it was never edited for content or flow. Weird errors on inch to metric conversions (one sixth of an inch is not 15mm guys, neither is half an inch – on the same page) for basing figures. Uses the word long for width of base.

Mechanics are I go-You go, with general orders to individual brigades in a wing… not well organized. Army composition considered prior to explaining troop types.

Interesting campaign concepts and changing ratings of Generals. I don't begrudge the purchase price of this or the "To Arms" army lists, but I think I'll file and forget this set.

The game is designed to be played on a flat surface at least 3' by 4' in size. This is covered with terrain features such as hills and villages to represent a model battlefield, over which model figures are used as chess pieces.

Isn't the above rather like advertising a car and saying it has 4 wheels and a steering wheel? Surely saying its a set of tabletop wargames rules covers all the above which are surely the basic elements of table top wargaming. That bit reads like how you'd explain a wargame to a non gamer – who are not really the target market I would think.

Okiee… here we go…

Yep, the rules are I-go-You-go; yes variations in relation to matters such as platoon fire drill and ga-pa tactics are covered – Swedish infantry charging get a bonus for example. Cavalry tactics revolve around formation deployed in (knee-to-knee, close order or open order), and the speed moved at (walk, slow trot, fast trot, gallop) which gives players losts of decisions to make (it isn't always of just go as fast as possible because the faster you go the greater the risk of disorder).

The end-date of 1717 probably should be 1721!

Correct there is an imperial-metric conversion error, but since it relates to the depth of a base it isn't critical.

The game description was deliberately 'wide' because some of those reading the blurb are not wargamers – the same wording is used on a roleplaying download site as well as the wargaming one, but I agree it isn't really necessary for most of us!

Anyway, if you've got a copy please do give them a go – they play well enough and we've had a blast with them!
