That is very cool. One could also mysteriously buy Chock Full O'Nuts coffee as Xmas gifts for everyone one knows too. The gift that gives back!

Do not throw the lid away. I use plastic lids as palet for paint. Nice for mixing various shades, and throw away once it gets too cluttered with dried paint. I have a X-Acto knife blade that is a circle, which I can use to punch out shields from a plastic lid. If you want to make some round ponds, fill the lid with white glue mixed with a brownish or bluish tint. Let dry a few days and then peel it out. For added effect sprinkle the Edge with brown flocking to make an embankment, and drop a few pieces of green foliage onto the surface, before it is completely dry. If you don't like a perfect circle you can trim it to an irregular shape.

I use lids like that for mixing 2-part epoxy glue. Just make a puddle, apply to your project, then leave the stirrer (usually a toothpick for me) end in the glue. When it's firmly set you'll know your project is curing as well. Wait as long as you can stand, flex the lid, and the glue and stirrer will peel off as one piece, allowing the lid to be reused if you don't have a frequent replacement.

I always love the use of found items in modelling.

Brilliant stuff.

How well will the chipboard hold up during gameplay and storage? From my experience, not well. That's why you don't see hardly any 90s GW terrain around anymore.

The chipboard is only used for the base, all other pieces are HDF. And as the closed end of the can is glued on the chipboard I don't see any issues. It just protrudes about 1/2".
