Foundry had some great figs for this. I don't know if they still make them or not. |

Heh! I wrote an article on this subject for Military History magazine, published way back in 1987. Always been a fascinating topic. The poor Mexican army, why does it always get stuck in these "heroic last stand" bad guy roles? Individual legionnaires, eh? What did you find about the mysterious Leonhart, named as a Swiss private, among the last six survivors in some accounts? I wasn't able to trace him at the time, but he was named in the official Legion accounts as read in commemoration on Camerone Day. |

It looks interesting, and I am assuming it accommodates any scale or you would have mentioned something specific. I looked at the preview and you mention that you used about 200+ figures for the Mexicans in your game, recycled over and over, which pretty much makes this a game for people who already have large Mexican armies or who want to get into 19th century Mexico gaming in a big way. I'll probably buy it just to read for fun as I don't have that many Mexicans lying around… |

Love Howard Whitehouse and have lots of his rules and reference books and apologies in advance, but I must hijack this thread for a historical Cameronista moment… @piper909: Have you read, "The Hand of Captain Danjou – Camerone and the Legion in Mexico, 30 April 1863," by Colin Rickards? It was published in 2005. I'm a bit of a Camerone nut (I probably have your 1987 magazine article rifled away somewhere!) and IMHO it's the most extensively researched and thorough book ever written on the battle. Not sure if it's the same Legionnaire you mentioned or not, but Rickards lists a Belgian Fusilier present at the battle as Jean-Baptise Leonard. It describes Leonard as one of the last six Legionnaires -- including Sous-Lieutenant Maudet -- in the South-West shed. Leonard was wounded just before Maudet led the final charge out of the shed. When his 5 comrades charged, Leonard stood up to join them, but instantly collapsed back to the ground. He survived the battle with wounds to the nape of the neck and one arm and was one of 12 surviving Legionnaires the Mexicans exchanged back to the French in early May. I highly recommend the book! |

My list of individual legionnaires mostly doesn't go beyond names and nationality. And sometimes the last part is a guess, because Frenchmen always claimed to be Swiss, Belgian etc. |

Sounds interesting. Could it transfer pretty smoothly to having Tuaregs/Bedouins for the nameless hordes assaulting the compound? Camerone would be great, but I just don't have the interest in the conflict to paint that many Mexican extras. North African tribesmen, on the other hand… |

It would transfer to just about any last-stand situation involving a crappy compound and hordes of opponents – Rorke's Drift, the Alamo, "Injuns" attacking a wooden fort in the cinematic old West, Planet 'P' from the Starship Troopers movie, or the Zombie Apocalypse. |

I'm going to order this, but wasn't it available a while back. I may even have run Camerone with these rules. If they are the same they're very fun. |

For bargain hunters, may I point out that the original Houston's figures referred to in the rules are still very much available as TVAG's "Viva Juarez!" range which may be viewed via this link At some FIFTY CENTS each (for foot), and sold in packs of 20 figures, with command, there is no more economical way to bulk up your existing collection, or to enter the subject for the first time. And for all you Old Men whose collections began years ago, these are TRUE 25mm figures that will match most anything you bought in the days before 28mm became "25mm!" And watch for the "Viva Juarez!" Scenario Book due out later this year from TVAG |

I own a number of Gringo 40s 28mm Maximillian Adventure figures and absolutely love them! Lots of character and great coverage of special units. |

@TVAG: Your Juarez range is listed as $25 USD for 20 figures -- not at 50 cents apiece. |

Let me throw in another vote for Gringo40. I have started collecting for Camerone and the FFL figures are absolutely wonderful. Some day I'll get all of them painted, too. ;-) |
