What's the guy sitting down doing?

SECURITY MINISTER CRITTER10 Feb 2012 1:27 p.m. PST

Nice sculpts and paint jobs.

Spiffy Iguana10 Feb 2012 1:34 p.m. PST

Sweet

That's a very odd bowman!

Cavemen wear loin cloths?

Cavemen wear loin cloths?

Perhaps they just have very, very strange genitalia?

Panzergeil10 Feb 2012 3:13 p.m. PST

Ugh

That's a very odd bowman!

I know the bow is a very ancient weapon, but I don't know whether the technology was known in the Paleolithic.

Here is an archaelogical history of the bow, including mention of use during the Paleolithic. I do not vouch for the accuracy of the site, but it was one among many that mention its use.

That's one hell of an arrow the chap on the top right is about to fire.

For once I have to disagree with the Security Minister; these sculpts are Bleeped text. You might not want to hear it, but it's the truth. The faces are okay, but these figures are a mess as far as basic anatomy is concerned.

Nice idea poorly realised.

Porkmann11 Feb 2012 3:45 a.m. PST

They remind me of miniatures back in the 70s.

Major Mishap11 Feb 2012 4:14 a.m. PST

I think the archer has just invented the bow :/ The rest are ok really, the kneeling guy is going to be huge if he stood up though.

PTCohn11 Feb 2012 8:05 a.m. PST

Not very good.

CommanderCarnage11 Feb 2012 8:34 a.m. PST

They would work well Sagoths from the ERB Pellucidar stories.

General Montcalm11 Feb 2012 2:54 p.m. PST

Ah, sculpted by cavemen. With two left thumbs.

Cincinnatus11 Feb 2012 3:24 p.m. PST

The bow shooting top and the sitting bottom are what really makes the group look worse than it is.

They aren't convincing historical representations to me but for a fantasy race of ape men wearing loin cloths, they're fine.

Nice to see someone try to make cavemen. The biggest problem I have with them is the bow. I like how harry they are. Their chins and foreheads look too pronounced and not sloping as I have seen them pre-homosapien humans. Otherwise its a good try.

Cincinnatus11 Feb 2012 8:19 p.m. PST

I love the idea of the separate tops and bottoms and agree the hairiness of them is nice. They aren't terrible figures in my opinion.

I would prefer no loin cloth and no sophisticated tools like a bow or axe. Just one man's opinion though. I hope they sell a lot of them. Maybe the next set will be more to my taste.

Am I right in saying that – if they are historically accurate (ie 'tackle out' as we say this side of the pond) – there are usually a lot of complaints from US gamers?

Perhaps the sculptors were just playing careful and hoping for a bigger market.
