bear in your race to be pedantic you are forgetting 1812 when the Austrians fought for the French. Of course the period 1792-1801 was full of huge great battles as was their contribution 1814-15.

Sounds like you have a bit of a downer on the Brits with your use of the word hiding. Of course the Peninsular was a right royal holiday for the chaps involved.

Cant wait until Christmas when I get my 28mm Austrians ready to paint and base for the subject of this topic!

I'm going to collect the Austrians in 2mm scale – does anyone know what colour the tunic buttons should be for the 1814-15 campaign?

I'm working on a 1mm French army myself, but I just can't get the shading/drybrushing quite right.

Don't forget that the world's most famous non-Austrian, Sharpe fought the longest and hardest of all, from India through to Waterloo and beyond. Rising from the ranks to a commission as Lieutenant Colonel, he certainly was history's greatest ever Napoleonic Hero (at least on land). Capt Jack Aubrey RN takes the heroice Naval title ….

I've seen all the documentaries on TV and also read all the history books, it's true.

… and I'm not going to collect anything in 0mm scale …

Of course I'm not wrong (that does sound real pedantic isn't it!); the original post was about the two adversaries in the rules which are British and French and should be Austrian and French so I dindn't mentioned the year in which they were allied.
I agree, I didn't mention that they mostly not only hide behind a lot of water but also behind hills.

PS, sorry, couldn't resist :-)

Am I missing something? The original post mentioned there only being 2 army list books, with a bunch of nations involved so these aren't "the first two books".

Seems like someone's got their panty's in a twist because the image on the front of the book shows British troops in both cases? Have I got that right?

stenicplus15 Dec 2011 2:45 p.m. PST

No, I think you are right.

Of course the chap with panties constricting his bloodflow fails to mention the troop on the front cover are clearly French. He also fails to understand how FOG army list books work, like in period or theatre.

Sysiphus15 Dec 2011 3:34 p.m. PST

No, it's the number of books/army-lists Osprey hopes to sell to all the Nappy players, that has many of us in a "twist" grin

Wonder if Osprey will make people wait months, like they did w/ FoG-A, for the release of specific army/ theatre lists?

$106.95 for the first three books, two of which are army lists? That's a bit rich I think.

If the current retail gloom continues up to and beyond the projected release date in March, I imagine there'll be a number of gamers who'll consider £75 for three books just to play Napoleonics a raw deal. Especially when a set of rules such as Grande Armee is about the same scale of play and costs under £25 complete.

I hope they become a huge success, multiplying the number of Napoleonic gamers many times over and creating a surge in the demand for Napoleonic figures and equipment, as well as supporting materials. (Ain't happenin', but I can dream.)

I also hope nobody expects me to play them. I probably won't even read them, for the same reason I don't check out new albums from bands who play music I don't care for.

I can understand people not wanting to collect the British for the Napoleonic wars, it would be like collecting Kansas Bleeped text kicker regiments for the ACW, can't decide whose side there on, and when they do don't contibute a great deal. And as for hiding behind big pools of water, disgusting! I bet if they were alive today they wouldn't have the ollocks to leave there address on a forum about toy soldiers. CH.

Cost – no object – I get LOTS of Amazon Vouchers :). I like the flow of FoG, and still play 6th.
