What are these things? Paper pieces?

WQRobb16 May 2012 10:34 a.m. PST

Apparently, although no reference to scale.

The link said "watermarked pdf".
That would imply you could print out yopur own, and in any scale.

Ideal for gaming "Tears of the Ken Doll".

A download to be printed out as Wargames Vault is the seller.

Are images "miniatures?"

Would be nice for the news post to mention that this is a PDF release/paper stands, instead of glossing over that detail.

The image reminds me of a couple of street punks that walked the streets of New Orleans in 2001. They wore (toy – I assumed) AKs on their backs.

I always wondered if they were desensitizing people for that afternoon when they went "hunting" with the real McCoy.

"Are images "miniatures?"

If they are intended to be, or purposely are, printed and used as such I suppose so.

So defining what a miniature is is a matter of intention?

If so, and I find images of soldiers in history books that are about 25mm tall, and cut them out and use them to game, what are they?

M C MonkeyDew16 May 2012 11:02 a.m. PST

Really? If you printed them out about 25mm tall, the things you printed are miniatures. Especially if you play a miniatures game with them : )

Have you noticed things that have passed for "miniatures" around here? It would seem that anything goes.

Dedthom16 May 2012 11:22 a.m. PST

What ever this is the image is quickly moving into the "Uncanny Valley".
I do not like when companies use CGI to create images, they look soul less.
Drawn art has much more character.

Paper miniatures are important to my group because of lack of funds and time for painting. I can't do what I used to do like painting and converting miniatures. I wish I could but little money, tine or health. So rent and food is a priority. And you get 24+ miniatures for 2.50 to seven dollars. They still work with the terrain we have, easier to transport and there is a huge variety. There's even a way of making your own from other photos and art.

I don't feel any less of a gamer using them.

Well, when I saw the art, and glanced at the price, that was the first thing I thought.
I don't feel the least mislead.
Not my thing, but certainly no deception.

You should bring this up with Fox Forrester.

Would be nice if they were sculpted minis as well. Never can have enough of these sort of fellows.

I just ordered them. It's worth $2.50 USD just to see what they look like.

Does remind me of a Ken Doll too …

Arrigo16 May 2012 12:15 p.m. PST

they look like…

ugly…. sorry but they are bad, just cheap CGI and pretty awful. I do not consider paper figures (figures not miniatures!) improper, and some (especially the ECW series that was advertised here sometime ago) are very nice and artistic,

but look at these…

The Man With Two Bryans16 May 2012 12:17 p.m. PST

Thank god, no huge codpiece. Just a massive black upright bar in the trouser region…

Space Monkey16 May 2012 2:01 p.m. PST

Yeah, I don't have anything against paper flats. They can look very nice and give a great mood to a game.

These recent ones appear quite ugly though… like bad Poser images.

WarrenB16 May 2012 2:56 p.m. PST

Looks like Jersy Shore got a lot more aggressive.

African militia versus Chi-Com anyone?

Friends don't let friends use Poser.

He looks like a characer in a video game.

Hey! No need to slam video games by such an unfair comparison. :)

15mm and 28mm Fanatik16 May 2012 9:37 p.m. PST

I hate video game graphics used in any non-video game format, like any machinima movie and now this crap.

Number616 May 2012 9:58 p.m. PST

There's nothing like the comfort of staying behind the times.

These would look great at 28mm and below.

You must be referring to the software used to generate those pieces. :)
