I'm kicking around the idea of trying to run a campaign based on this event. My first thought is; would the Greek cities have been mostly Greek; or mostly locals with a ruling class of Greek invaders…I mean colonists? If so; would the Carthagian list from AoA with it's generic "spearmen", etc and Allied hoplites not be a better fit for the rebels than the traditional "Hoplite" list? I'm no expert, but it seems I've read somewhere that local pottery was never eradicated by Greek and chariots are shown very late in the period on the Greek stuff.

Gears tend to work better (very well, actually) with 15mm. Personally, I don't think they work well with 6mm.

Either way you go, 15mm or 6mm, you've got plenty of goodness to choose from.

The Greek Ionian cities would have been almost all Greek. There probably were other people living there but they were Greek cities with Greek populations.

I think the traditional Greek list would be the best for this, of course most of the important battles of the revolt were naval so you might want to fit that into your campaign somewhere.

There were supposedly automata and other interesting devices, but Ionian gears? Well, maybe the Colossus of Rhodes was one. I dunno.

I think there was a Colossus Automaton in "Jason and the Argonauts". They were dressed like Hopites, if I recall correctly.

Pictors Studio must have been bitten by the e-bug.

his first response here was actually from someone else in a response to my question about Alien Squad leader in the Sci-Fi discussion forum.

Just so you don't thinks P.S. is crazy.

Victor Davis Hanson has all the straight skinny on the Ionian way of war.

NOW you'll see crazy.

No, I do not think PS is crazy….
PS; I have some Heller Biremes with Foundry Argonaut & Hoplite crews – enough to fill a good sized table, and they play pretty well as triremes. Not something you'd want to do every week, but fun.

Rory Calhoun?

I would say an Ionic army would have Hellenic core with many local auxiliaries for color. Since there were no land battles we don't know.

This is no reason why one could not swap some Paphlagonian cavalry for the Greek horse, and Trallian or other asians could be slingers, maybe even an odd Bithynian will add some variety.

This is a good question, once which i am struggling with as i create scenarios. I actually finding this revolt is more interesting than i original though it was, although it looks like more fun for the Persians. This is one of my videos on the battles of this war.
