Who writes a good book on the modern FFL and what it is like when you join up? Saw several books on amazon.com but would like someone's opinion if they have a favorite book they can suggest. Thanks!

I read one called "A Mouthful of Rocks" that was pretty good. A guy from the UK writes about his enlistment in the FFL.

The reviews are mixed, but I liked the book.

I will check my books at home and will reply friday morning.
I have several books. If I am not mistaken the Mouthful book is an Anti-Legion Story

Are you thinking of joining? there was a good reality show on UK channel C4 last year they were treated like Bleeped text and beasted mor ethan I have seen before and these were not regulars or recruits so they might have hammed it up a bit

The best I've read was Evan McGorman's "Life in the French Foreign Legion." Hellgate Press, 2000. He goes into detail about everything from the food, the French, and even desertion. I'd highly recommend it.

Evan McGorman's book was high on the list but I would like several opinions from this site 1st, I have read some great books in the last couple of years from other people's reading lists.

I just watched some show on the military channel over Xmas and thought, hey why not read up on this….

Legionnare by Simon Murray.

His life in the Legion 1960-65. Very good book

I'm gonna order Evan McGorman's book cuz it is not available at the library, and I'm gonna check and see if "Mouth Full Of Rocks" and "Legionnare" are available at the library or used book shop. Thank you !

G'Day "CPT Jake"

The book that was called "Mouth Full of rocks"…is nothing but BS…

I served in the Legion from 1979 to 1990…and the book was written by a deserter who never even finshed his 4 months of basic Instruction. I even know of Legionnaires who went back home on leave…looking for the person in question ;-)

Best Regards,
