Guys,

I'm in the process of painting the figures from the box of the BattleLore game (Days of Wonder – Richard Borg). These plastic figures are not to a constant scale, but the human infantry is 18mm, which I'll use as a base for expanding. I know about Eureka's 18mm range, but my question is if either the (now discontinued but still available) Demonworld figures or the ranges of Black Raven Foundry are "true" 15's or "epic" (which would make'm closer to 18mm).

Thank you for enlightening me.

Rudi

Not sure about those mini lines you mentioned, but DoW is planning on releasing 3 Battlelore expansions this year.
Undead army, Elf army, etc.

I know I'm picking up a 2nd copy of Battlelore this week and will eagerly be awaiting the expansions.

Off Topic- Have you looked at "Tide of Iron" (FFG) yet for a very good looking new WW2 minis/boardgame?

The Demonworld are larger than *true* 15mm (1) But they are still a lot smaller than Eurekas 18mm.

And are 18mm to eye or top of head level?

(1) Peter Pig for example as true 15mm.

Too echo the Foreign Bleeped text, Demonworld is somewhere between Eureka and true 15mm. The eureka elves are actually more like 20-22mm.

Black Raven Foundry by Old Glory 15mm/BH are not true 15mm. They are larger.

Most of Richard's playtesting was with minis. It is with all of his games.

The irrgeular scale is a necessary evil based on production and game mechanic (size of the borad, etc) issues. We discussed it at Fla (Recon convention which he always tries to attend) show. Very friendly and always willing to talk about the games that he has out.

@geudens

Yeah, I already pre-ordered 2 copies of "Tide of Iron" for myself, now to see if the wife actually wants some for the store. LOL

Where is this news about BattleLore army expansions? I'd love an Undead army.

I picked up a hex mat from Hotzmats, with 5" hexes and have started playing battlelore with my 25mm WFB minis. This has led to the creation of "Lorehammer", a mutation that blends the 2.

@Homer
News and rumours flying around the DoW forums mostly.
The definite new figs will be "Heroes" and some new "monsters", both units of one.
The heavy favourite for the next "mercenary" expansion is Undead right now.

Demonworld and Black Raven Foundry are mainly "heroic" 15s which makes them ~16mm to the eyes. This is roughly the size of most new 15mm scuplts. Some BRF scuplts are slightly larger.

Eureka's Orcs are also this size.

If you want stuff closer to 18mm to the eyes, try Eurekas's Elves and Dwarves and much of the Blood Dawn range.

Caesar is going to release some 1/72 scale miniatures which match up well size-wise (well, at least some of their Ancients do!) with the Battlelore miniatures. They're supposed to be released around this summer:

They also have Elves and Skeletons listed, but no pictures of the masters yet…

@Scott

Those Caesar images look outstanding! I especially love the job they did on the goblins. I can already hear my wallet begging for mercy when they come out.

ScottBrooks26 Jan 2007 5:34 a.m. PST

I agree! I've bought most of their ancient-era stuff, and it's all outstanding. I've always thought it would be a great idea to make Fantasy troops in 1/72 plastic.

I have Battlelore and the infantry are around 15mm, just a little larger. 18mm is way too big for Battlelore figures. Black Raven Foundry and 15mm Battlesystem might make a decent match

KenofYork..

any more details on 'Lorehammer'
I like the sound of that :)
