Hi all

I need to know what colour berets the following arms of service wore

Royal artillery
Engineers

Any website links would be useful.

Both navy blue, but I think khaki may well have been worn on occasion in the field.

I've just realised where I got the khaki from; the Honourable Artillery Company were khaki, other artillery Navy Blue.

What branches of service (army) wore the beret in the field?
I have an officer figure wearing one, and I am curious about how to paint it. I was hoping to use him in a regular infantry unit.

Aha, that would make the navy blue beret a post-war thing, with the khaki GS cap for WW2. (Unless armoured, in which case the RAC's black beret instead.)

One to add to the list.

Grey – 1st (Royal) Dragoons

Adopted following mechanization (2/41) and retained throughout the War despite official condemnation.

Pretty much everyone post '43 wore a'beret like item of headgear' all infantry had khaki judging by bw photos including Gurkhas.

I'm sure another service arm wore grey berets as well as the 1st royal dragoons and scots greys. Some form of special forces unit, but I cannot recall where I saw the picture. All I can remember was the badge on the cap even looked like the scots greys eagle

The Greys did not wear the grey beret, only the Royals. This is made clear by each Regiment's record of special embellishments.

The eagle you are thinking of belonged to the Royals. They were never very fond of their regulation cap badge and preferred a small brass one modelled on the Eagle captured from the French 105e Ligne.

The special ops type unit you are thinking of might be the Lovat Scouts, who wore a diced Atholl bonnet, although not in combat!

SAS, but post WW2 are grey.
