Have the uniform designs been put up yet. I keep checking because I wanted to see how good or bad the art was compared to what I actually see here in Japan. However, I am unable to link to any art beyond what is on the 'front page'.

rmaker08 Dec 2006 7:46 p.m. PST

Under the picture on the front page is the sentence:

The latest entry received is Jakar Nilson's "smart and stylish" school uniform for Taichi Mahou Purufecturu (TMP). See (and vote) for all of the entries here!

Click on "here". You will get a list of the current entrants. Click on each of them to review the design and vote.

@Typhoon – Are you native Japanese or gaikokujin?

I don't get active links on the list of current entrants.

Is it a Safari thing?

I may still be in crusty old git mode, but isn't this a bit…wrong?

Nope. Links are still dead. Just names, no graphics.

I'm with you, Kawasaki!! I am FAR from being a prude, but there has always been something disturbing to me about the fascination some grown men have with little Japanese schoolgirls in their uniforms. And the excuse that it is "anime" doesn't change the central fact. I am frankly surprised to find this on TMP at all…

the Gorb09 Dec 2006 6:29 a.m. PST

@Parival – Then click the name to show the entry.

I am gaikokujin but married to a Japanese woman. So, I say I'm darn near half Japanese now! ;-)

Yep, dead links for me too. Is it a Safari problem?

Well, it does get disturbing if you OWN several and like to DRESS in them on occassion. Otherwise, it is just school uniforms in a possible game. Kind of like Gogo Yubari wore a Japanese schoolgirl uniform in "Kill Bill". It was just part of the movie. You only make it unseemly if your mind drifts there! ;-)

altfritz09 Dec 2006 7:39 a.m. PST

I'm with kawasaki and Napoleon III on this one.

beowulfdahunter09 Dec 2006 8:42 a.m. PST

As both an anime fan and a teacher I too am disturbed by this topic.

*loaded question*

So you would not have a problem with your teenage daughter being used as the object of sexual imagery for the gratification of (I'm assuming) middle-aged men?

Mooseworks809 Dec 2006 10:35 a.m. PST

I'll be glad when it's over. Whats the wargaming point to the JSU contest?

OldGrenadier Fezian09 Dec 2006 10:36 a.m. PST

More to the popint, what do you win? :)

OldGrenadier Fezian09 Dec 2006 10:36 a.m. PST

"popint"? Oy, such typing!

Fixed! (For those of you having the problem, what-in-the-world browsers are you using?)

What's the wargaming point to the JSU contest?

You'll see…

I rather thought of the whole contest as just silly. Most of the uniforms are just goofy, not risqué at all. Some are over the top, and I won't vote for 'em. But the rest just seem to be poking fun at a rather absurd genre to begin with.

astronomican09 Dec 2006 3:34 p.m. PST

"there has always been something disturbing to me about the fascination some grown men have with little Japanese schoolgirls in their uniforms."

Too true! It's heading into the realms of pedophilia and it really doesn't have a place on TMP no matter what excuse is thrown out by the sickos who enjoy such things.

twowheatons09 Dec 2006 4:22 p.m. PST

I have to admit that when I saw what was being designed I thought it tamer than I had imagined it would be. However, one has to admit that "dressing up" Japanese school girls borders on the notion of pedophilia.

Too cynical, perhaps? Too jaded?

Did it ever occur to you that perhaps women (and fathers with their daughters) were enjoying this contest?

Rogzombie Fezian11 Dec 2006 3:12 p.m. PST

Too old maybe, lol!!!!

Rogzombie Fezian13 Dec 2006 10:29 a.m. PST

Well, I really liked all the entries. They were all well done and 2-3 stood out to me for different reasons. One used a unique color scheme that was most a one color look. I found it refreshing and cheerful.

One in particular took the look beyond the sailor suit and can up with a really sharp looking uniform and the illustration was a really cool style as well. This one got the most points from me.
