This train: link This is from an earlier Bob and his dog thread, is available from Walgreen's Drug Stores for $9.99. There are two different sets, Western Express by Goldlok – old west with diamond stack and the other is a 1920-30's with a bigger boiler, smaller smoke stack, I think it is called the Passenger Express. |

I got a diecast one last year at Walmart for the future. I paid a bit more-$20 but it's diecast. Does that really make a difference? :) |

I would think having to repaint it would be a pain with having to strip it down to bare metal and all. Not that you have too

The Goldlok sets at Toys R Us have an extra pack of 12 straight track sections taped to the side of them. |

Hmm, only at some Toys R Us, it would seem. It's too bad that they don't sell separate cars, because the passenger cars could really do with some stretch conversions

Of course if you want to go the civilised route and have trams instead of trains yopu have two choices from Corgi. Their British trams are 1:50 and their US single deckers are 1:48 both of which are excellent for those mean streets. |

To create my train, I used two sets to allow for conversions. |

The Goldlok trains, I got mine from Toys R Us and bought 2 so I'd have more passenger cars and 2 different engines, paint up very nice after priming. I might consider getting a deisel engine for modern games as well. Not something I'd considered for some reason. |

I got a train called 'teamsters heritage western express'. Very similar to a goldlok, won on eBay for a reasonable price. I've seen lots of similar toys up for auction. Needs painting up, and some of the accessories are useless at gaming scale, but the train and track are great. |

Did one of the Glodlok trains have a diesel engine? I must have missed that. |

I picked up one of the Western ones with the diamond stack myself for my Great Rail Wars stuff. Been wanting one for a little background set dressing. |

Anyone know of a source of cheap modern trains suitable for 28mm? I'd like to use one in a post apocolyse setting. Yes a heavily armoured steam engine is also useful, but I was wondering if there was something a bit more modern available for a 'new, heavily armed, cross the wastelands' style train. thanks Scott |

Thanks for the tips, guys. I've got one Goldlok train and it's pretty good, but I really would like some more passenger cars, so I'll swing by and see what they've got. |

I just could stand the temptation and so I picked up another of these trains at Walgreens, they still had 7 or so left over by me. |
