My 12 year old son just twisted my arm while we were visting the local Toys R Us and we are now the proud owners of the Godzilla Pack of Destruction, which contains 10 plastic monsters (they're about 2.5" tall). Admittedly, he didn't have to twist very much. Does anyone know of any rules for wargaming with movie monsters? Ideally, I'd like to find a set of rules for young kids (10-16). My son is very excited about playing such a wargame (and I like to encourage that sort of thing) and if all else fails we'll write out own rules, but I would like to know if someone has already done that? |

I think you want to look in the Toy Gaming area. There is a rule set (Monster Island (?)) that pops up there. What did the set cots, if I may ask? Who produces it? |

Robert Burke, I've got that set, they're pretty nice aside from the odd eraser-esque material they're made of (kinda' like my old battle beasts) and that they don't scale well with the gamera figures I have (poor godzilla's half his hight!) No destroy all monsters for me Mysterioso, Yup' monster island (which I own but haven't played) firefly-games.com There's also giant monster rampage (which I don't have yet) link but I couldn't find the company's homepage |

Robert, I just picked up that set yesterday at a local convention. I saw a game of Destroy All Monsters being played when I took a break from my game. I just downloaded the DAM rules (pun intended) from the freewargamerules web site. Here is the direct link to the rules. link Mysterioso, I got mine for $20, but I probably got screwed. Oh well at least I have the minis. |

I remember that SPI had a game called "The Creature that ate Sheboygan". Use to play it often in a piazza parlor while drinking beer in my college days. Rather simple as I recall and it let you "build" your monsters abilities to recreate your favorite monster movie or make something better, you hoped. |

Monster Island Rocks! Fast and easy system. The expansions give rules and stats for armies, super science and aliens. |

I'll second (or third) Monster Island. Simple mechanics, but a very fun game. It has rules to design your own monster with what ever powers you want. & you can even get the initial rules & the 1st suppliment for only $10 USD from Firefly. |

One of the easiest to learn games out there for Giant Monster battles is Giant Monster Rampage. Its great for all ages. I've run it at cons with kids and adults playing side by side, having a ball. You can play with just the first book and when you've played that enough get the expansion World War where you can include micro-machine tanks, planes and boats for you beasts to crush. It also includes many new powers and rules to expand the game play. The main rulebook and supp. is only $12 USD each. Here's a link to their homepage. link If your boy has legos or building blocks they make for great skyscrapers. Giant monster gaming can be one of the cheaper hobbies aside from the rules. Dollar stores usually have tons of beasties and toy military vehicles on the cheap. |

I believe that it was the Monster Island rules that I played a few years back. If it was, it is a fun little set of rules. I enjoyed the several games that I got to play in. I believe that you can download all of the Monster Island rules and supplements at RPGNow. |

Try out Giant Monster Rampage. It's one of the best game systems I own for capturing the feel of what they set out to do. I can't recommend it enough. It's d10, too! |

Thanks for all the suggestions. The Godzilla Pack of Destruction cost $14.95 USD at my local Toys R Us. |

Thumbs up for Monster Island, economical and plays fast, good for teaching kids about miniatures games. Giant Monster Rampage isn't bad either, but a little more complex. |

There is another set trhat no one has mentioned yet, called "Trash Tokyo" by Wilsonclan games that i have to say are my favorite. Dead simple easy to creat your own monsters etc.. I'm such a fan that even though they have been out of print for a few years, after much pestering by me John has now nearly completed work on version 2 "Trash Tokyo Z" (in fact I have a PDF of the playtest version in front of me now). I hope to have the printed version for sale through the WSD (Wargames Supply Dump) website soon. I'm sending a link to this message board to John to push him in the right direction as it were! Monster Island and Giant Monster Rampage are equally good. GMR was the first monster game I played. The rules are fast and fun. Monster Island has more suppliments, and city outlines. I am a huge Godzilla fan, and have been playing with Godzilla Gashapons for years. The Pack of Destruction is a great starter-set for anyone getting into Kaiju gaming. If you want more monsters,Hobby Link Japan is an online store that sells most Japanese candy toys at good prices. |

There is also Monsters! by Starchilde publications. It's out of print but you could look for it on ebay. You get to design your own monster with detailed (but not too detailed) rules which remind Champions (the Hero System rpg). You also get a booklet of pre-designed monsters and paper buildings to destroy.Sadly, there are no rules for artillery VS monsters -- it's just monster vs monster. |

Thanks for all the mentions of Giant Monster Ramapge. I just wanted to let anyone that is interested know that the next expansion for GMR: Revised will be available at RPGNOW sometime in the next month or two. The new expansion is titled GMR: Atomic Humans and it brings super heroes into the world of GMR. I am also working on a horror themed expansion tenatively titled GMR: Cthulhu Rising. |

I own Giant Monster Rampage too but i've not played it myself. However i do have a large collection of Godzilla candy toys or as they're called Gashapons/High Grade. I have a large selection of Godzilla figures as well as Gamera and Ultraman figures as well. Now all i need is buildings plus some terrain and i'm ready to roll. Captain Gideon |

I'm trying to use the 2" in height Godzilla miniatures from Wizkids. I tried several of the links mentioned here and they all come up with 404 error!!! I'd prefer a free set of rules to use. I'm discussing the topic on my "Miniatures War Gaming" group on Facebook. Here is the link: link If anyone can help that would be awesome |
