I have seen the stuff posted on Rackham's site and DakkaDakka. I might pick up a copy from a discounter when it comes out. Anyone seen anything at any Cons recently?

Zafarelli05 Nov 2006 10:14 a.m. PST

I have played a short demo at Spiel in Essen (Germany). The minis are ok. If they are really prepainted to the standard displayed, they are probably the best prepainted minis I have seen so far, which means good tabletop standard.

The rules didn't thrill me, though. If I remember correctly, it is basically Activate unit – Move – Shoot – Repeat.

NoNameEither05 Nov 2006 10:47 a.m. PST

We saw some of the pre-painted minis at a recent show – the quality of painting is "good" – a passable table-top standard by any good judgement.

Haven't tried the game itself though.

I too saw them at GenCon Indy. They looked really sharp, but even the Rackham rep said that these were propainted and the finally product wont be this good.

So I will just wait

Hmm. ok. I really like he look uf the U.N.A power arrmors. Very SF3D

Lysander05 Nov 2006 1:29 p.m. PST

I saw it at GenCon and Origins. Sculpts were very nice, admittedly I was into the human figs more than the aliens but that was my own bias rather than any deficiency with the sculpts (call me a speciest).

The paint jobs were excellent. I was told by the vender reps (at both cons) that the intent was to get as close as possible to the look of the pro paint jobs as possible with the prepainted figs. If they get within 50% of the level of the paint jobs I saw, you can count me in to buy them.

Rats. i was hoping they were awful… Now I have to convince my wife what a great present it would be for Christmas! LOL

Mocaiv05 Nov 2006 5:00 p.m. PST

I still want to try the rules before buying…

Barks105 Nov 2006 5:13 p.m. PST

I do like the walkers and power suit thingies.

mikeg9905 Nov 2006 6:17 p.m. PST

The Rakham site has some basic rules that are supposed to come in the basic box. Advanced rules are set for release next year sometime.

mikeg9905 Nov 2006 6:17 p.m. PST

I meant to say that the basic rules can be downloaded from their website.

Torben Kastbjerg06 Nov 2006 4:03 a.m. PST

To hell with the rules – I want those UNA troopers for No Limit, and I want them now! :D

blackscribe06 Nov 2006 1:26 p.m. PST

I got my hands on one of the pre-painted prototypes at Gencon. One of the painters pulled it out of his box of kit. It *was* pretty close to the display models. It had kind of a model railroad dusty feeling to it rather than the >"THE DIP -- BOO YA!"< action on say Heroscape. The guy told me that the actual production models should be pretty close in quality to the factory prototype.

The opportunity for nice, prepainted figs is getting my attention more & more lately. Time is a premium.

Anyone sure this will make it to the States in time for Christmas?

SeattleGamer Supporting Member of TMP06 Nov 2006 11:36 p.m. PST

I don't know if anyone can guarantee it will be here in time for Christmas Mr D. I'm about to pre-order mine from here:

thewarstore.com

Always been satisfied with their service. All they mention is that the game is due out in December. No specific date is mentioned there. I haven't looked for a specific date on the Rackham site though. Perhaps they have one?

I'm ordering it for my son, but he's old enough that if the due date slips and I don't get it here in time to be under the tree, I will give him a small box to open that says he has a "Mystery Gift" coming. He'll then forget about it, and then when it finally arrives it will be like a mini Christmas all over again. : )

tnjrp07 Nov 2006 12:47 a.m. PST

AFAIK Rackham hasn't given a specific date yet either, but the Damocles Box was once supposed to come out this month. I'd assume they are trying to push very hard to get it out for Christmas, so I'd say it's within the realm of possibility that it will come out in ca. two to three weeks time.

The crippled preview of the rules included in the starter box can be downloaded from the official site:

Pre-ordered my copy in-person with Fantization at GenCon SoCal. Looked at the set and the stuff looks REALLY nice. Couldn't open the display copy, but the pre-painted minis look terrific, the box art is gorgeous and I'm excited and anxious to get my hands on my copy in a couple weeks (hopefully)!!!

SeattleGamer Supporting Member of TMP19 Nov 2006 11:43 p.m. PST

The Rackham site said something about shipping to some nations on December 1st and others about a week later (don't recal the exact reason). Didn't see the US on the list for "late" so perhaps my copy will make it to Neal at thewarstore, who can then ship it to me in time to go under the tree.

Here's hoping.

I've also yet to stumble upon any word about expansions, what, when, etc. Since Damocles is the "starter" set with rules, I would expect them to have some expansion ready in the wings for almost immediate release. But so far, I've not seen a word.

tnjrp20 Nov 2006 10:04 a.m. PST

While Rackham have announced several additional boxed sets, including one for Red Block (a non-starter-box force), I haven't seen words "expansion" or "booster" used yet either, but they are calling the out-in-Q1/2007 rulebook "advanced". Maybe that counts?

Lion in the Stars20 Nov 2006 5:35 p.m. PST

I've seen/handled one of the early release demo packs (an 'Initiation' set) at my FLGS. The bases are nekkid, but the minis are to about the standard I can paint for myself, straight out of the box (I can do better, but the time required increases exponentially). The demo rules are … a little disappointing, as the basic stuff is a pretty plain 'Activate, move/shoot/move, repeat' cycle. Thing is, those are just the bare, 16-page introduction rules and a few scenarios to teach you the rules. My pet peeve about Confrontation is the wound rules, but it seems that AT43 has moved to more of a 'GW' style system. Roll to hit, roll to wound, and I think I saw a roll to save in there, but I'd have to look again.

The Damocles 'Initiation' set is a bare starter set, kinda like a lesser version of GW's 'Battle for [whatever]' starter sets. I say lesser, because it doesn't have the full rules in it, just a simplified, learner version of the rules (kinda like Corvus Belli's Infinity starter boxes having the quickstart rules instead of the full version). The 'Advanced' rulebook is supposed to have all the rules and details on all the factions (there's almost no detail about the factions in the starter rules).

SeattleGamer Supporting Member of TMP20 Nov 2006 11:24 p.m. PST

I knew the Damocles box was a "starter" set and that the rules in there are NOT the full-blown deal. Just something to get people started (hence the "starter" name).

Two points:

#1 I'm not to worried about the rules yet. They are just the initial rules. They will be a bit light and that's okay. If the advanced rules are horrible, then the minis become fodder for any number of other rule sets.

#2 I would expect them to make a big push for this as it is their initial release into the pre-painted minis world. Because I expect it to be a big push, while the energy of the initial release has people tripping over themselves to get a boxed set, I would also expect there to be a number of expansion boxed sets nearly ready to go.

It takes months to work out playtesting new forces, new stats, new abilities, etc. Then that gets turned into initial sculpts, which get finalized. Then the factory gets to ramp up making new molds, etc.

So if the initial starter box comes out in December, I wasn't expecting them to wait until March 2007 to release the first force expansion box. Since the Advanced rules is where you find all the troop types, that means they can't release new troops until the rulebook comes out.

I suspect they already have the final rules worked out (probably 95% or better) with only last-round editing and final approval before heading off to their printers. That should also mean there are probably several force expansion boxes nearly ready as well.

If my logic is close, then somebody, somewhere has seen some actual expansion force minis. They know what's coming and approximately when. On the off chance that it was posted but buried in some forum I've never been to (maybe they showed off some piccys of the next minis at some con), I'm hoping somebody who ALSO visits TMP can shed some light on what they know.

If not, I'm still looking forward to AT-43!

nanite23 Nov 2006 3:43 p.m. PST

There's been updates at tabletopgamingnews.com

as well as at-43.com both showing upcoming minis.

Rackhams newsletter is also consistent in showing pics of new minis.

"Since the Advanced rules is where you find all the troop types, that means they can't release new troops until the rulebook comes out"

Err… Of course they can -- and will, e.g. the Red Block box I mentioned above. They do have all the stats on cards as per Confrontation, so the release mechnics can and would seem to work similarly. I'm even hazarding a guess that the advanced rulebook will contain mostly fluff in the armies section (this in addition to the advanced rules obviously). Of course, if you consider fluff absolutely essential then this approach won't float your boat.

Weasel23 Nov 2006 11:32 p.m. PST

I really doubt I'd use these with their actual rules, but the mini's look excellent and I'll definately get some handfulls.

Will they fit with stuff like Void and 40K mini's or ?
