I've posted an out-of-the-wrapper review of the new WFB 7th Edition Battle for Skull Pass on my website: weetoysoldiers.com Lots of photos as usual, including scans of all the sprues (front and back)! Please let me know if you find any typos or broken links. And feedback/comments are always welcome! |

An excellent review- much more information than can be found on the GW site itself! I can see now why US customers are saying this set is such a bargain. I thought it was okay value at £40, but for $45 USD that's the equivalent of £25! That's it- I'm heading over to the ranting board ;) |

I am curious how the pricing on BFSP will affect GW's sales of their regular regiments – I don't have the exact numbers in front of me but a regular regiment of dwarves (16 warriors) is $30 USD – why buy that when for another $15 USD you can buy BFSP and get 32 dwarves (12 warriors, 10 thunderers, 8 miners, a commander, and a slayer), plus a cannon and crew, drudge cart and pony, a dwarf wall, a big goblin army, small rule book, etc. Or why buy a new night goblin (20 goblins) or spider rider (10 riders) regiment for $30 USD when for another $15 USD you could get 10 spider riders, 60 night goblins, a troll, a goblin idol, captured dwarf, goblin warlord and shaman – plus a small dwarf army, rule book, etc.? Of course with the regular regiments you can do more conversions (the regular night goblins can be armed with bows, spears, hand weapons, and have an option for nets; the regular dwarves can be armed with 2-handed weapons as an option) – but does that make up for the huge price difference? I was thinking of picking up a couple new night goblin regiments (40 goblins) and a spider rider regiment(10 riders, total $90) – but why not buy 2 BFSP – I would get 120 goblins, 20 spider riders, 2 trolls, 2 idols, etc, a decent sized dwarf army that I can either trade for more goblins or start a new army) – for the same price? |

For a lot of people, it will come down to how much they can customize their Dwarvish regiments (by the way, it's $35 USD USD per boxed set of 16 figures, not $30). Take a look at the sprues that come in a "regular" Dwarf Warriors boxed set: link The sheer number of bits that come in the regular boxed set that make for a wide variety of poses and outfits, not to mention that you can either build them as regular Warriors or Longbeards, will be the determining factor. GW figures that people who spend $$$ on the Warhammer hobby are the type of people who are also into painting/converting/collecting, etc., and the regimental boxed sets give you far more options to get creative. |

So you can customize and pay a little over $2 USD per figure if you buy the dwarf warrior regiment – or get a bunch of similar dwarf poses for (depending on how you calculate the worth of the dwarves in the BFSP box – say for example the dwarf warriors themselves are worth $12 USD – the other $33 USD is for the cannon, cart and pony, goblins, rulebooks, etc.) about $.40 USD per figure. It would be an easy decision for me – in some cases the multiple options in a GW regiment just mean far more assembly time, I like to get the unit painted and on the table, and that is what BFSP is designed for. One other drawback of combining dwarves/goblins from several BFSP boxed sets is you do end up with way more command figures than you need – if you combine the dwarves from 3 BFSP boxed sets you will have for example 24 miners, a nice sized unit – but you will have 3 each standard, commander, and musician. Not that big of a deal for the thunderers (I see a lot of players with units of 10 thunderers) and goblins though – only 1 command group per 20 goblins. But since you are only paying pennies per figure (this is all assuming you pay full retail, you can get anywhere from 20 to 40 % off at some places) who cares if you end up with extra command figures? |
