Yeah, and you can be the one to tell him. |

Carrying a long term grudge against a female relative is a touchstone of gayness. Plus, the funny walk and the flouncy hat. Really, the one thing that stands against this thesis is that Marion changed his name to John, rather than the other way round. That and his legendary poor judgement on fabrics and colour tones. All the other cowboy stars spoke of that. |

Wow, one of the most scholarly TMP threads ever. Suunds like the Village People Redux- Pirate, Ninja, Cowboy, Viking, Robot, Zombie, token African-American. |

What about dinosaurs? they're the coolest ever, and predate human history, making all of your other musings redundant

And although Doug McClure has flirted with the Western, it's his Dino-flicks for which he will be most fondly remember

Since he is dead, the only way to tell John Wayne anything is if he has been brought back as a zombie, thus changing his team, as it were. |
John the OFM | 27 Sep 2006 4:16 a.m. PST |
Exactly thesame point I made about Graham chapman earlier. |
| Steve Flanagan | 27 Sep 2006 5:17 a.m. PST |
Graham Chapman was certainly gay, but I can't recall him ever playing a cowboy, a pirate or a ninja. Are you proposing adding "British Army Officer" to our ever-expanding divinatory polygon? |
| Plynkes | 27 Sep 2006 5:27 a.m. PST |
He was a pirate in "Yellowbeard", if I recall correctly. |
| Steve Flanagan | 27 Sep 2006 5:35 a.m. PST |
You've seen Yellowbeard? Isn't there a medal for that? |
| Mulopwepaul | 27 Sep 2006 7:18 a.m. PST |
British army officer is a subphylum of samurai--coolly impassive devotion to the monarch, and all that. So, therefore, are British naval officers, so the pirate vs. Royal Navy duels of fiction are workings out of the pirate vs. samurai antagonism. PVO |

I think that my point was more about Graham Chapman having to be a zombie to tell us we were being silly. His gayness did not enter into it, but since we are breaking down into sub-sets here, he can be a gay zombie. Ian McKellan (I have no access now to spell him correctly, but I hope I managed it) has the gay wizard, the gay Super Villain, and the gay Richard III niche cornered. |

Yellowbeard is a fine film, and I'll fight anyone who sdays otherwise "Us Yellowbeards are never more dangerous than when we're dead." "Lambourne, stop that man p***in' on my 'edge. It's imported." "Cuddling yer? I was rapin' yer!" "Well, it was a sort of half cuddle, half rape." "I may br blind, but I have acute 'earing." "I'm not interested in your jewellery, man
" |
| Plynkes | 27 Sep 2006 2:06 p.m. PST |
As usual you are mistaken, my dear old thing. Anyone who hasn't seen the film now knows all the funny lines in it, thanks to Chronoglide. |
| Steve Flanagan | 28 Sep 2006 5:03 a.m. PST |
Ian McKellan (I have no access now to spell him correctly, but I hope I managed it) McKellen. I still think his finest hour, or three minutes at least, was as the possibly-bisexual dancing nosferatu in the promo video for the Pet Shop Boys' song Heart. |

Pirates – cool. Ninja's – always cannon fodder in martial arts films – thus not so cool. Plus black is out this season for clothing. Cowboys – gay. |

"The five coolest things ever -- zombies, pirates, ninjas, robots and monkeys." Hmmm
there's a Magic the gathering expansion in there somewhere. And we can add catgirls and dinosaurs in the artifact slots

It looks like the zombie vs. pirates debate is coming to a head in the political area. Here are photos from a zombie rights protest, with pirate counter-protesters. link |
