I would like to do some pulp gaming along the order of The Mummy movies from several years ago. I don't want to do a tomb crawl game, but one set outside.

In 25mm, who makes nifty Egyptian buildings and scenery, aside from Crocodile Games? Maybe some tomb ruins, downtown Egyptville houses, a French fort, and so on. Anything that would fit the bill for a cool Mummy game.

BTW I tried building some structures in foam core following instructions at the Colonial-era Wargames Page, but I got very frustrated working with the material.

CP: WHere are you located? If in the US, hit any of the large pet supply stores (Petco). Go to their aquarium section. There are a ton of reasonably priced resin pieces for an Egyptian setting.

There's also a line of egyptian buildings and ruins for aquariums that are perfect for gaming. I've seen them in both of the major big box petstores.

It helps if I actually read all the posts. I some how missed the first response.

Ah well.

Reaper's got a few new Egyptian statue sculpts, Bast, Horus (painting that now) a jackal, and I forget what else. And mummies, of course.

Crocodile Games sells various generic bits from their line which could work well, some cat statues, treasure piles, canopic jars, scrolls, altars, and assorted acessories. They even have some pre-painted stuff.

Hobby Lobby carries some Egyptian statuary that might be of some use.

hallo John Leahy
are these buildings work good with 28mm miniatures ?

Grimm

Grimmbo … those look like little leggo people out front, and if so that means this should work pretty good with 28mm.

John … thanks for that link. Dang that's cheap for what you get!

If you like that one, check out this one.

Try Scotia Grendel to. Very cheap resin – and lovely pieces.

Hey Mr Leahy. I have their castle that Xintao referenced and it's made of this cheap vacuform plastic that really doesn't take paint well. Is the egyptian set made of the same stuff?

zoraxxx26 Sep 2006 7:46 p.m. PST

I've never seen the Grendel scenery before. Does anyone in the U.S. stock these?

SeattleGamer Supporting Member of TMP26 Sep 2006 10:11 p.m. PST

Deathwing … I've heard that some forms of plastic have this issue, but there is a plastics primer out there. I think it was designed for things like those glossy slick lawn chairs and tables and stuff like that. Perhaps a good plastic primer first before actually painting would help.

If you want to see that plastic set turned into a massive Egyptian cityscape, with docs on how it was done etc, try here:

God I hate joining groups just to see a few pictures

artslave27 Sep 2006 4:00 p.m. PST

You can see some of the conversion on the "cover page" without going in. I wonder if this is the same set that was offered in the UK? Seems different than from the detailed discription on the site. Anyone know for sure? My local Kay Bee stores do not stock this, so I'd have to mailorder it with only the pic to go by.

CPBelt27 Sep 2006 6:37 p.m. PST

Thanks for the input. The Hirst is the way I'm going at the moment. Plus these buildings from link

I like Grendel but no one sells it here in the US that I can see?

Hi. The plastic of the first gate section IS a softer plastic. However, Rustoleum Plastic Spray Primer should handle it with ease. The temple section is hard plastic. It should work nicely with 25-32mm figs. I am just sad that I didn't pick up more at the $12.99 USD price I bought mine at. INCREDIBLE bargain.

Thanks,

John

I have bought Egyptian pieces by Grendel from the chaps in Canada, Battlefield Designs. They come to the local cons here, as we are just over the border, and also at Historicon. battlefielddesigns.com

zoraxxx27 Sep 2006 10:53 p.m. PST

artslave. Thanks for the Battlefield Designs link. I want the Olmec stuff for a lost city deep in the jungles of South America.

I surrendered today after checking all the local toy stores and ordered a "Lost Kingdom" playset. It seems to be stocked by E-toys, K-B, and Sears. It would have been nice to know if this was the same set as the UK one. The picture just shows a gate and temple, without the enclosure walls of the UK version. Hopefully, the walls are there but not pictured. If so, I would have ordered two for the slight increase of postage. Those walls looked very useful. Now I'll have to wait and see. Not such a good deal without walls. I didn't want to sink the extra money in if this is just a smaller set. When it comes, I'll post a review so others can have the info I didn't have.

Methinks I have another thing to tempt my funds when I go to Kay-B Toys later this month!

artslave29 Sep 2006 9:16 a.m. PST

I checked both my local K-B Toys stores, and they don't stock it, and don't show it on their computer, even though I gave them the product number from their website. I also checked the K-B Outlet store. They had the Castle playset, but not the Egyptian one. It might be a local thing, so by all means, give it a try. It cost about 8 US dollars for shipping and handling and tax from Sears. (It was rated as an item that could not be picked up at a Sears store) E-Toys or K-B might not charge State tax, but Sears does. Oh well, it will be one of those web purchaces I will not have to fudge at tax time.

Mysterioso30 Sep 2006 8:33 p.m. PST

My Lost Kingdoms set came today. I wish I could have bought it at a store rather than order on-line and pay through the nose for shipping. But now I have the beginning of Egyptian terrain, which is something I wanted.

Size-wise for 28mm there are no worries at all. The little figures included with the set are bigger than Lego figures but I think smaller than Playmobile. This makes the set nice for 28mm. Has a DeMille look to it.

The statues look like they will need some type of weight added to the bottom to keep them standing. Maybe washers glued on. The set has the temple area and one big wall for the front. Big wall might need some weights added to the bottom too. Temple area's pillars are hollow and only have three sides, which is a bit disappointing. I think the US set has less stuff included than the one sold in the UK as the side walls that people describe in the UK set are not present. As was noted by another poster, there are different types of plastic involved with this set. The big wall and the statues are a soft plastic which reminds me #2 plastic used for yogurt drink containers. The temple is a hard smooth plastic used in a lot of toys.

artslave01 Oct 2006 10:45 a.m. PST

Thanks Mysterioso. You answered my biggest fear. The US set is different. As I have the very detailed discription on modifying this set for game use from the Stargate Yahoo group, I was prepared for everything you discribe. I would have been very upset if I had ordered two, now that I know I won't get the side walls. If I have to make walls, they might as well match, so I'll just plan on that. Grrrh!
