I dunno about LOTR, but when I see that first table…

"Sir, is this gonna be a stand-up fight, or another bug hunt?"

"We believe a xenomorph is involved…"

Okay, something wierd is up with the time. The clock above the 'add a comment' box says 6:30 am PST…but I'm seeing posts of around 9:00 am PST.

As a long-term project, I am thinking of having Shelob's lair and the fortress of Cirith Ungol together.

It should be easy to get ideas for Shelob's lair from this:

For Cirith Ungol (like in the LOTR movie), this is all I have to go by:

Any ideas? Has anyone done one like theone in the movie?

The GW Cirith Ungol looks kind of boring. I'd make the space much narrower, with stair cases and multiple levels. We wants orcses and nasty uruk-haises to be plummetting down from the heightses, we does, yesss, Precious, gollum, gollum.

Whoa… time travel!

NVDoyle,

Weird. I think this IS going to be a bug hunt for Bill!

If it helps, I think there is a diagram of the tower of Cirith Ungol in "The Atlas of Middle Earth" by Karen Wynn Fonstad, which seems to be about as good as it gets for books of this type.

Wow… odd bugs here. Lovely tables, though.

Although Tolkien doesn't say it is implied that the pass of Cirith Ungel does run thru the lair of Shelob and clearly the lair is on the west side of the tower. It seems as though there may be some quick routes and some longer routes thru the lair; however, all routes pass thru the lair. The Atlas as suggested by DalyDR is a must have for the serious Tolkien gamer. Shelob I would think should be placed centrally in the tunnels at her nest with many trip/feeler strands run thru the lair, and the fat bloated spider waiting for agitation of the trips before moving. I would think a roll to activate Shelob modified positively by the number of figures in the party trying to get thru the lair-the more figures the harder to pass unnoticed.

DalyDR,

Is this the diagram?

This is really interesting for gaming the various factions:

Yes that's the picture from the atlas.

The "Behind the Scenes" stuff on the RotK disc talked about their design for Cirith Ungol. There's a rock-dropper built into it, scarecly noticeable in the film but lovingly detailed by the whackos who would rather make movie sets than go out and breathe fresh air.

Rock Dropper. Invading Sam thinking his new sword and green cloak are all the protection he needs. A bitter Gollum trying to get the drop. The potential for special rules abound!

After reading the book I think the Tower in the film is more accurate than the atlas illustration with the different floors rotated through 45 degrees (however the last time I read it was 6 years ago). @ thosmoss, I would love to have been one of those whackos (breathing from a O2 tank might be a problem ;)

I guess this is the model used for the film:

I am in complete awe. One of these years, I hope to be able to make something like it.
