I have to say I'm the not the biggest fan of a lot of the upcoming AT-43 releases from Rackham, though the aliens are interesting. That said, I was thinking that perhaps the Firetoad Walker (seen here: link would make a pretty cool walker for the Pig Iron Infantry grunts. Aesthetically it has the same feel as their War Droids and vehicles. More so than say the SST stuff.

Be interesting either way to get ones hands on one to see it up close.

That is a neat mecha. I think you're right about the match with the Pig Iron infantry, though it might have to do with the choice of colors as well…

Also your link is busted with the extra ")"

Here's a fixed one: picture

Actually I don't like the pre-painted look myself and would want to paint it to suit my PIP Infantry. Not too impressed with most of the new Rackham pre-paints.

Yep, it goes with them very well. I don't mind the paintjob so much – I'll still probably redo it, though. Or at least give it some basing.

>> I don't mind the paintjob so much

That is a studio paint job. The final minis will look different

Rackham still ahsn't, AFAIK, released pictures of the shipping paint schemes for the walkers in AT-43

Lord Billington Wadsworth Fezian15 Sep 2006 9:02 a.m. PST

Yeah – the studio pantjob is sweet.

It is cute though :)

I think Freud would have something say about the location of the guns. Or maybe that's just my mind in the sewer, got to get back up to the gutter with every one else.

I think I'll pas on this one.

Space Monkey15 Sep 2006 9:21 a.m. PST

I'm assuming those will be plastic?
I hope hard plastic… not that rubber stuff…

Most of the stuff they've shown so far looks pretty cool…
The aliens seem pretty 'Necron-ish'… but I like the Necrons… so that's ok

here are some prouction paint job pictures:

well… those aliens look ripe for stripping/repainting…
but the troopers aren't so bad…

More evil machines! grin

The aliens "spider type" walker looks pretty cool too. I sure hope these will all be available in blisters and packs and that I'm not bullied into buying a box set to get the minis I want.

In the case of the aliens, I'm not sure I'd bother stripping them if they come in solid black like that. Depends on how gloppy the factory paint is, I suppose…

Space Monkey15 Sep 2006 10:13 a.m. PST

I guess it looked kinda gloppy/thick to me in that photo… otherwise I'd agree

"I think Freud would have something say about the location of the guns. "

Yeah, He'd probably say- "Why on earth would they mount the mainguns so low. They can't even shoot when hull down."

Regardless, How much is this piece expected to cost? I might buy one separate from a box set. If it's only available in a box game set then I might pass on it.

I'd likely chop off the main guns and use it with some other modifications as a "Drantnought" for a future expansion of my mercenary Drantakh force.

That Freud was a brilliant tactician….

He fought at Skull Pass.

No brilliant tactician has ever majored in psychology.

I saw the pre-paints in person at GENCON – and while they weren't "Golden Daemon" quality – they were better than most of the pre-paint figures that you can get now. I think that the AT-43 concept is great and it will appeal to those who don't want to paint their armies. Besides, they will work great for Defiance: Vital Ground or other generic systems.

Goldwyrm15 Sep 2006 12:42 p.m. PST

Sorry Pete, I found a distinguished military man with a master's degree in psychology:

Do I win a signed copy of Gloire? ;-)

@Jovian1- Any mention of the AT-43 price at Gencon?

Grumpy Monkey15 Sep 2006 12:48 p.m. PST

For all you that want to strip and repaint, I was told while at thier booth at Gencon that you will be able to buy them prepainted or unpainted, hopefully the unpainted will be a bit cheaper.

Broadsword15 Sep 2006 1:11 p.m. PST

UNPAINTED would rock!!!

Space Monkey15 Sep 2006 2:06 p.m. PST

Yeah, an unpainted option would be great… depending on the price

Redroom15 Sep 2006 4:11 p.m. PST

It's nice to see them offering the minis both ways. I like the minis designs too.

PeteMurray15 Sep 2006 4:20 p.m. PST

Hey Goldwyrm,

He was in personnel and Early Warning. Doesn't sound like tactics to me…

I'll still autograph your Gloire rules for you.

I LIKE the Firetoad! It puts me in mind of a classic Battletech Marauder on STEROIDS!

squirmydad15 Sep 2006 8:12 p.m. PST

More of a croucher or squatter than a walker really…

Lysander15 Sep 2006 10:39 p.m. PST

I saw the Firetoads and regular troops at both Origins and Gencon. The Rackham folks indicated that the prepainted figs would be close to the quality displayed at both conventions. They looked great although I was less excited about the non-human figs (call me a "speciest"). My intent is to snarf them up prepainted…don't care much whether the rules or universe is any good (it may be great for all I know)…I just want the minis. I have many, many uses and systems to use them in.
