I would like to buy some special forces, modern infantry, Middle East.

Since I am new to Modern wargaming, I have no idea which manufacturer make good 15mm modern figures.

Anyone?

Thanks in advance.

Peter Pig would get my vote.

Old Glory actually makes a nice range in this scale.

Actually, having paid a visit to the flashpoint website, I am a little concerned about the pricing . . .

Now these are 15mm moderns right? They cost 25 New Zealand Dollars which according to XEcom works out at around £8.80 GBP GBP for 9 – 10 figures??

Now I fancied getting a few of these, but at those prices I think not. My own range of 28mm figures (which includes Arabs and Israelis) are only £8.00 GBP per pack for 8 different figures in 28mm scale, so this makes these 15's as expensive, or even more expensive than the 28's?

Is this right Phil or have I got the maths drastically wrong? How much are you going to be selling these for in GBP and how many are there to a pack?

Cheers

Frank

From looking at the catalog, you get 18 figs in a pack, which equates to .91 USD per fig.

GeoffQRF15 Sep 2006 9:31 a.m. PST

I thought it was just me, they do appear to be priced higher than others. The catalogue says they ( moderns ) are 9-10 to a pack, plus the bases. ( link )

Also Anton ( FP ) did clarify that the Vietnam figures are 15mm, while the modern Middle East figures are larger ( 17mm, for 1:72 )

Anyone have photos of the Old Glory (Command Decision) modern US and Middle East irregular figures?

You could go with Minifigs 12mm modern. They have a nice selection at much better prices.

Didn't the Flashpoint news blurb say that the moderns were 20mm and the Vietnam figs were 15mm?

Cyclops15 Sep 2006 2:44 p.m. PST

aecurtis- I haven't got any pics of the OG Mid East range but they are basically Afghans. They have AKs, what look like bolt action rifles and those Afghan style hats whose name escapes me. OK for the price (£9.00 for 50) but not top notch sculpting. A bit too 2D in my opinion.
I'll wait for Peter Pig to expand his Mid East range before I build up my irregular forces.

Pictors Studio15 Sep 2006 3:16 p.m. PST

Allen,

They look much like their world war two stuff. Sculpting style is just about identical.

aecurtis Fezian15 Sep 2006 4:06 p.m. PST

Thanks, Agent Brown and Scott.

I'm assuming the hats are the Pakol type shown and described here:

samsloan.com/pakol.htm

If so, cool. I can do with some "B" quality sculpting, as these will need to come in VERY large numbers for a good old "AK-47 Republic" religious faction, and the Old Glory Army pricing makes them financially attractive. At 16 cents apiece, I can forgive a lot.

Wait for Martin? Heck, how long have I been waiting for Illyrian ski troopers? grin

I could never get my hands on one of these hats that was big enough, back in the day when the people wearing them were our friends… Yep, big head, that's me.

Thanks again—

Allen

Thanks!

I would like to buy some modern figures from Peter Pig but most of the manufacturer didn't provide pic on their website.

It is so difficult for a newbie to decide which is better.

PilGrim16 Sep 2006 4:37 a.m. PST

It depends on what you are planning on playing really.

PeterPigs new USMC are first choice if US inf is what you want, and QRF are pretty much first for most modern vehicles – honorable mention to Skytrex \ Old Glory with nice vehicles but a very limited range.

Rod Langway16 Sep 2006 8:59 a.m. PST

Minigeek,

There is a complete manufacturers directory in the database section of the 15mm Modern Group:

Also a lot of vehicle pics, will be uploading several infantry pics next week.

Hello all

You will find our Moderns line(Flashpoint Middle East) a little highly priced for 15mm… mainly because they are not 15mm they borderline the 1:72nd scale in range (17mm approx)(in addition they come with dioramic metal bases, 1 per fig)

I too would baulk at paying $25 USD NZ for 9-10 15mm figs, not even AB would fetch that from me ;)
For 15mm ultra moderns there are plenty of other great manufacturers in the mix I'm sure.

Hope this helps

Anton

P.S nice website Geoff

GeoffQRF17 Sep 2006 12:49 a.m. PST

Thanks Anton, yours is nice too :-)

I realy like the look of the figures, just a little confused as to where they fit. I understand that they are primarily designed for more of a skirmish game (Wild Fire, from Task Force Productions – another antipodean producer – may go well).

Perhaps it would help if you could clarify where you see your ME range fitting. For example, how do they fit with 20mm ranges, such as Liberation, or are they between the two? You say they borderline on 1:72… how well do they go with the 1:72 plastics that are available?

The bases are very nice, but they do tend to just 'up' the price. Most of the gamers I know detail their own bases, either to suit their style, other figures, terrain or just personal preference (possibly one of the reason our plain MDF bases sell so well).

15mm Gnome17 Sep 2006 4:07 a.m. PST

Thanks 15mmWWII

Your site is very useful.

The Groaning Konk17 Sep 2006 6:11 p.m. PST

Hey Geoff
The FPME ranges fit very well with 1:72 scale vehicles. This is the reason we went for this scale…because of the abundance of excellent vehicles available in 1:72. Also the range is purely intended for skirmish level actions between squad to platoon level.

Cheers
Anton
