I am so pumped for this. Here's some more info on the initial release!

I played at Origins. The demo was very simple, very Spacehulk. The painted figures on display looked great. Very Paolo Parente.
We were told that the prepainted figures might be supplemented with the same figures unpainted and metal, available direct from Racham. They couldn't comment on the quality of the upcoming prepainted stuff, and noted that the demo pieces we were using were repainted by their studio.

I'm almost positive I'll be repainting mine regardless, but I really lik ethe style of most of the minis.

I refuse to get excited by this – I just know the pre-painted figures are going to be a disappointment. And the metal "direct from Rackham" will be outrageously expensive.

I think that AT-43 is just an excuse to sculpt tentacles…

Actually, I think that AT-43 is going to rock, and I can't wait to see it.

That previous comment is one of my favorite TMP curmudgeon quotes…

Any pictures of components? …especially the mini's

tnjrp01 Aug 2006 10:14 p.m. PST

The pics of prototype models used at Origins can be found here:

And here are some minis (presumably from the Red Block faction of the game) that were on preview at GAMA:

Rackham site's AT-43 section has a few small ones that may not be in the above two links.

Christmas. Then NLT March 07 for the big rules. I can wait that long, if I have to, I guess.

Red5angel02 Aug 2006 5:57 a.m. PST

lol@altfritz – if you can see the future you should be using that power for good, not cranky….

Those pictures that tnjrp posted are about the only ones so far.

I'm not all that excited about the infantry I've seen so far, they look lik e acombination of judge dread meets imperial guard but the aliens and human machines look fantastic.

Broadsword02 Aug 2006 7:54 a.m. PST

Okay, I like the UNA FireToad even though, according to its reference card, it has no friends, it's not allowed to wear a hat & its phone privileges were taken away. ;) picture

Hate to join the ranks of the curmudgeonly, but…

What "scale" are these things? This will determine if the infantry will be of any use at all.

And, like MageKnight & HeroClix before them, repainting there will be.

@altfritz – I'm afraid you may be right. But – hopefully – lots of younger kids will go wild over it, force their parents to buy them tons of the stuff, get bored of it in a few weeks and then dump it on eBay for reasonable prices.

They're not doing the "collectible figure game" thing, are they? Random contents, can't just buy the few you want, etc.? Again, it doesn't matter much as it will only slow down the eBay cycle by a few weeks as the kids get over the "I've got a rare & you don't" phase.

Grouse, grouse, grouse!

axabrax02 Aug 2006 8:16 a.m. PST

Let's see if they can actually do an English translation that doesn't look like it was done for free on Babelfish, i.e., loaded with grammatical errors and typos…

I think that a new game to be released is exciting news. It appears that the game itself will be good. The figures look good. Even with good reviews I probably won't get the game or figures. I prefer painting my own even though the prepainted figures are possibly better than what I can do.
I may get a rules book and such if available and maybe get my minis from elsewhere.

Red5angel02 Aug 2006 12:11 p.m. PST

Boradsword – not collectable! Right now they have a main box set which comes with something like 25 miniatures in it, enough to play a game with, shortly following that will be army boxes.
Army organization is whatever you want, if you want all firetoads you can go with all firetoads.
it's 28-32mm heroic scale so should fit with other games of the scale out there.

While I plan on repainting mine, I also plan on adding a bunch of detail so I'll need to repaint mine. From what I understand, Rackham has worked really hard to get these thing spainted properly for mass production. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and I believe they won't be anything like mageknight or MWDA.
