I bought the very nice Stonehouse Miniatures Aztec temple, and am wondering who makes good Aztecs and Spanish that, scale wise work together. The Foundry Spanish are great, but too big and costly. Who knows when or if their Aztecs will ever come out? Tin Soldier makes some Aztecs, but no Spanish. Help!

Kevin,

Try Naismith Design, available through:
navwar.freeserve.co.uk

They make a line of 25mm Aztecs and Spanish in true 25mm.

hang in there Eureka is going to release their aztecs soon. Saw them at a convention and I can say they were good.

I have a sample of a Eureka Aztec alligator suit wearer: drool, drool. Very nice proportions and clean sculpting. Apparently there will be quite an extensive range of Eureka Aztecs, so start saving up now!

Yes - for those of you expressing an interest - our new range of Aztecs will be officially released at Historicon this July when Nic Robson makes his annual pilgrimage across the Pacific to the U.S. The range will have around 14 codes with 4 to 6 different variants for each code - including Novices; Feather Suit Warriors; Eagle & Jaguar Knights; war priests and many more. We will be releasing some Tlaxcalans shortly after that. The Aztecs will be up (and illustrated) on our website around mid July.

Rules that are good for aztec / aztec conflict would rock too. One big problem with aztec vs spanish is the vast inequity in troop numbers.

KSmyth28 May 2003 5:05 p.m. PST

John, will the Eureka figures work well with the Foundry El Dorado figures?

Scurvy, I am probably going to use The Sword and the Flame variant called The Sword, Cross, and Gold that is written for Conquistadors and Aztecs by Mark Stevens. It's available through Brom's The Way it Was... website.

Thanks, guys for all your suggestions.

How does it handle the fact that you have units of thousands with the indians and only hundreds with the spanish? Im thinking of using them for a skirmish game with some lizardman skinks i picked up el cheapo. those LM have that aztec type theme going so it should be fun. some sort of lost valley sort of thing.

September 2002's Wargames Illistrated had a good set of easy rules. They just got vauge with the numbers having one indian fig represent hundreds while the spanish figs represented numbers in the tens. Still doesnt sit quite right but could be worked to a skirmish set ok.

Hello KSmyth
We would describe our forthcoming Aztecs as a large '28mm' size, so if you want your Aztecs to look smaller than your Foundary Spanish you may have a problem. However, these things are often in the eye of the beholder of course - so if you'd like to decide for yourself send me your name and postal address (johnc@eurekamin.com.au) and we'll gladly send you a free sample.

This may be blasphemy, but Revell did Aztecs and Conquistadores in 1/72 soft plastic. This is 20mm (about 23mm sole to crown), but may work well with the terrain you've described.

Scurvy, you should also check Reapers frogmen pack then!

I'm thinking about possibilities of using these Maya's for an Undead army. That skinny god could be a good undead monster/entity/lord. with maya noble necromancer and flayed skin suit cultists!!
