2007 will mark the 50th year of Scruby Miniatures.
Jack passed away in 1988, but his soldier models carry one…

To celebrate the 50 years of Scruby's Miniatures, we are going to produce some limited edition figures depicting Jack Scruby as an officer commanding his troops.

Before we proceed too far don the road, we would like your feedback on what you feel might be appropriate.
We are presently thinking that 30mm would be a good scale for the figures (Jack had many wargame armies in 30mm, and 30mm will "fit" in with today's 28mm figures).
As for subjects, our thoughts are to produce two figures: 1) A Napoleonic Officer (possibly French) and 2) An officer of the 1880's Colonial era (somehow, I'm picturing an FFL officer).

Please let us know what you think of these ideas or pass along your thoughts as to what might make a good figure.

Additionally, we are looking for a sculptor or two to work on this project. We do have a few favorites, but we know that there are many fine sculptors out there. Was Jack Scruby one of your early influences (sculpting or wargaming)? Perhaps you would like to work on this project? If interested in working on the sculpting side, please drop us a line we would like to discuss the possibilities with you.

Thanks in advance for your input and interest.

I think he would look great as British colonial officer or ACW general!

Jack lived about 40 miles from where I grew up. Although I didn't know him then as I was pretty young, one of his part time employees introduced me to wargaming. I remember seeing all those painted metal figures and thought how cool they were. Although I could only afford Airfix at the time I remember saving my money and buying an 12 figure unit of 20mm Scruby ACW union advancing and making it the elite unit of the army.

Mike,
Having been a long time collector of Jack's figures, I seem to remember that he had a table-top alter ego for the 30 years war armies. It might have been "Joachim Von Scrubawitz", or something similar. I actually had the pleasure of meeting both he and Mike Frank on a couple of occassions at cons.

Mike,

As you know I've found Scruby to be a good style to work in – though I tend to like to add more detail than he was able to with his method. I would be honored to work up a couple of the 30mm figures for you- maybe even a 'limited edition' head set (for 45mm of Naps and SYW officer)?

Ok Mike, one things to remember.

The "Jack Scruby" figure's must always have a cigarette in his hand. Perhaps with a small gaming table, that he would be leaning over.

That is the things I remember about gaming with Jack.

And that Scowling look he would give you from across the gaming table.

I would say the following would be good time periods.

Napoleonic, (Fore and Aft Hat).
30 Years War.
Ancient, (Roman Emperor).

But I only new him for the 15 years he was with us.

He was a great guy.

My first Miniatures Wargame was 38 years ago with jack Scruby's American Revolution figs! Great fun.

I would like to see an officer in a tricorne, but in the style of his 30mm AmRev figs.

Speaking of which…

Anyone know where one can get more of the 30mm Scruby American Revolution figures?

I haven't seen that anyone is making them at the present.

Especially could use some officers and mounted generals, some cavalry.

Thanks!
