Cacique Caribe22 Jul 2006 7:40 a.m. PST

How about Lonesome Dexter in ow/9/4? You'd beed to modify his gun though.

He is in the Trail Crew

Crazy Cora – Dancehall girl in ow/11/2?

Excellent film in my view, one of my favourite westerns. And as you've got red-coated British cavalry, you could make it VSF too if you added in some of those killer kangeroos and duck-billed monsters!

Who are you going to use as the Alan Rickman character (Elliott Marston, Owner Marston Waters Ranch)?

By the way, which was the aboriginal actor that hits Selleck, but later walks away when Rickman gets it?

I was going to transport him back to the states but now im thinking Australia! Ive got Lonesome Dexter-good choice but Ive already painted him.Wish someone would make a pack of chaps with Sharps/Remington Rolling Blocks etc.

Khazarmac22 Jul 2006 8:55 a.m. PST

For Elliott Marston, I thought one or two of the Lawmen set looked pretty good; ow/9/3, same link as before.

In the old Grenadier gunfighter set, there is a tall chap with a long barreled Sharps rifle, I painted mine to represent Quigley.
"you ain't Bill Hickock……."

How about ZCW-17 figure on the right?

Khazarmac23 Jul 2006 12:33 a.m. PST

Raminad – that Buff' hunter with the big hat is almost perfect (hat a bit big? – minor detail). Can't get the Knuckleduster site to load in Firefox or IE.

I used to enjoy playing western games with TableTop Games' Once Upon a Time in the West rules, as in the back they listed lots of film/TV characters, converted to their rules. Wouldn't have had Quigley listed though, way to old for that.

So I suppose the next question should be, how would we recreate the Quigley character in our chosen rulesets?

I use my own variation on Necromunda to play western games (Westamunda – free download from Freewargamesrules). So using a GW profile, it'd be eay to give him a BS of 5 probably, even 6, with rifle, 4 with a handgun (he never said he didn't know how to use one, after all). WS 3 or 4. S 4, T 4 and W 2 (he took that beating pretty well and survived). A a normal 1. I of 5 as he could beat them at the fast draw. Ld 8, as whilst he inspired the Aboriginals, he was really a loner. Giving me;

M BS WS S T W A I Ld
4 6/4 3 4 4 2 1 5 8

Add to that some of the Necromunda skils; Ambush (hide & overwatch in same turn), Crack shot (re-roll injuries), Marksman (pick target and shoot at extreme range). Don't quite know how I'd replicate the shooting two people with one bullet trick!

And his gun would in my system be an S 4 or even 5 weapon, so more effective at wounding people.

Malc, et al,

This is fantastic. You guys may just get me into Western gaming!

CC – combine your interests. Have western characters encountering aboriginal Americans who look like cavemen. Or herding prehistoric animals in a VSF/cavemen scenario! Or Jurassic Park meets the Wild West in Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West show with dinosaurs (that's VSF, Wild West and cavement all in one game).

He ought to be almost perfect, as he is *supposed* to be Quigly! ;-)

Many if not all of the figures from the West Wind "Cowboy Wars" line are modeled on specific characters from specific movies. They don't acknowledge that, of course, or there would be those pesky copyright issues. If you look closely, though, you can find a number of them that are readily recognizable.

Indeed. The Cowboy Wars range has a great variety of characters and weaponry as well as mounted and foot versions of everyone but the Tong Gangers. Great stuff.

The not-character models often have significant differences from their celluloid inspiration which is understandable.

Check out the Texas Ranger packs for Captain Reverend Clayton from "The Searchers". Marshal and Deputies for Bull from El Dorado complete with revolving rifle. Great stuff.

The Cowboy Wars rules were a bit dodgey (IMO of course) but the book lists all the packs in the range including a few that sadly have failed to see the light of day like the not-Rawhide cattle drive set.

Malc,

Your Westamunda version sounds spot on!

O.U.a.T.i.t.W. is my favorite far too detailed skirmish game. Still play it from time to time. Especailly love the showdown rules!

Was there a Quigley film before Quigley Down Under?

Khazarmac24 Jul 2006 4:51 a.m. PST

"Was there a Quigley film before Quigley Down Under?"

"Quigley on Top"?

Khazarmac24 Jul 2006 4:52 a.m. PST

Re. the Cowboy Wars figure, I didn't realised it was based on him, no wonder it looks just right!! May have to buy it now, on principal.

mjkerner24 Jul 2006 2:09 p.m. PST

So, does anyone have a list of all the not-characters in the Cowboy Wars line?

Here's the Westwind Quigley I painted a couple of years ago. The other buffalo hunter in the pack is supposed to be Jeremiah Johnson.
