I'm just starting to design some scenery bits, mainly to go with GW epic scale (which is roughly 1/300) and was wondering about common base sizes for other 1/300 scale games. The scenery is going to be primarily modern conflict/sci fi in nature. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Iain. |

Hmmmm. Some of us just use the size recommended for 15mm or 25mm (28mm, 32.6125mm, whatever) and use more figures. When I was going for "6mm scale bases", I generally used 25mm squares since a single tank usually fits and it's enough room for a few infantry to not look too clumped up. |

Thanks Malbrook. So, from the sound of it, the standard GW 20mm and 40mm epic bases are probably fine to work from. Thanks, Iain. |

Of course, given that the current version of Epic is pretty loose about base size, anything from 5x20mm up to 40x40mm should be fine |

I use warmaster 20x40mm bases for my 6mm stuff. Most tanks fit on it, and you can fit a couple of trucks or 10-ish infantry on them. Support guns go either two (a battery) on one base, or singly on 20x20mm bases. This was done for BKC, but it looked so good I'm contemplating using it for Epic as well. |

Hi Iain, I would design for 2in x 3in bases as a minimum. That's fairly standard measure with 3in x 3in being somewhat more common. The smallest city bases from my 6mm layouts are on 1" x 2" bases (Sidewalk sections, small parks or greenbelts, and the like, etc.) while my largest tend to be 6" x 6" (larger buildings with parking lots). The largest terrain piece I ever built was 12" x 12" (an airport with plenty of depots, terminals, control towers and other buildings). In general, I aim to have most pieces fit on a 3" x 3" base (75mm x 75mm). Make sure you can accomodate 15mm x 40mm infantry bases (GW's Epic) and you'll be fine. Shabbat Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |
