Hello, Maybe this is a strange question but i've certainly seen weirder requests for obscure miniatures over the years
I am looking for 28mm miniatures of dead cows. I've posted this on the WWII board because I guess Dead cows were quite common during WWII in normandy and such
I want to use these cows as scenery in my Warhammer Vampire Counts army. Are there any dead cows out there? And which company makes any good dead cows? Many thanks in advance! |

I do not know who makes dead cows, but here is a suggestion
I would take some plastic toy cows—try a hobby (that is, arts and crafts, not gaming ) store for cows ot the correct size. Sand them down on one side to create a more or less flat surface, then base them. Don't worry about legs sticking up at odd angles, the truth is that between rigor mortis, and the inevitable gas build up in the heat and sun, the legs of dead quadrapeds tend to stick up at odd angles in real life. You could also carefully heat the plastic and repose the legs. Strangely, from a very large collection of random stuff that I purchased, there are dead boars in piles of 2-3, but I unfortunately do not know who made them. |

Only in 20mm, which i guess is too small for your needs. |

Pegasus Hobbies has 1:48th farm animals that are just the perfect scale. And once you could usethe standing ones and place them on their sides
once they were bloated it makes no real difference. Or do a conversion
that is what I plan to do with my 2nd box! Cheers, Burkhard |

Elhiem sez: Only in 20mm, which i guess is too small for your needs. Not if he wants to have young cows in his scenery. |

Thanks for all the tips guys! Maybe converting is the way to go but i'm suprised that no-one makes dead cows for use in WWII games
Those pegasus cows sound really good! Do you know where i can find pictures of these? |

28mm dead cows would be fantastic with my Griffin Greys. I would love to have tons of mutilated cattle around, in their eternal search to verify if everything tastes like chicken! :) CC |

What's with all the damn "dead cattle" posts? Is this the new Zardoz? |

In case you were interested
Redoubt also do a small dog having a widdle. Always finishes off a piece of scenery, IMO. |

Just try your local toy shop, I used to have some farmyard animals of all types when i was a kid. They should be about the right scale. |

If you are near an AC Moore (US, Northeast), look for a Safari MegaToob. I am sure there is a farm animals one. Note the scale on these animals is all over the place so look at the "toob" and see if there are enough animals you want in the scale you want. As this is kind of being discussed here, how would you paint these things? I got a pack of Jungle animals as the rhinos, hippos, and gorillas seemed to close to 28mm. They seem kind of rubbery and like the paint would rub off. Is there a special primer? I have tried to track down the thread on painting the Twilight Creations Zombies but can not locate it. |

Foundry recommends wash the models in a strong detergent solution and let them dry thoroughly, Base them for painting, I use craft or popsicle sticks, paint them with a solution of 70% PVA glue to 30% water. Let them dry before painting. Ive never tried this myself but it sounds like a good idea. I plan on trying it with a toob of jungle animals. |

Thinned pva works with 20mil bendy plastic figures. The farmyard animal toys I've seen are way less bendy. |

I know PMD made some, ask over at BATTLEMART.COM and maybe they can get you some. Had a set of 5 28mm, one was even ran over with tank tracks through its mid section :) I have a set and will see if I can get some pics for you. |
